There's no sales tax on coal purchased in PA whether picked up yourself or delivered.
In Albany NY it's going for $266 - $316.00 a ton. $266 loose bag yourself (40 ea 50 lb bag) in Valetia NY. In Berne NY you can purchase 300.00 ton (50 ea 40 lb bags). Rice coal. How about that no tax on coal in NY State. It must be the only thing they don't tax here. I wonder if it would be cheaper to purchase a flatbed of 24 pallets (aprox24 tons) if it would be cheaper then $316.00 a ton? Does anybody know. Not opposed to travel to PA to pick up product but it must be cost effective to do so. Paul

I was quoted $190 per ton for bagged anthracite picked up in PA from Penn Keystone Coal Company. Reading Anthracite is probably about the same.
Keep in mind that most pallets weigh 2400-2500 lbs, you would need to have a forklift availabe to unload the truck.
One things to consider when buying an entire truckload is what do you do if you don't like the quality of the coal?

I paid 284 for a skid of Blashak nut. We live in Pierpont, Ohio located about 35 miles S/E of Erie, Pa. A skid is 60 forty pound bags. I drove 10 miles to pick it up.

The guy I get my bagged blashak rice off of in Linesville, Pa. is holding the price at $238/ton for now but as fuel prices go up so will the price of coal & everything else.

Make sure your getting it from reliable source, check for references. I want to say "the word of mouth guy" is probably your best bet but that is not always the case. Make sure you're getting weight slip with your purchase, that doesn't necessarily make it legit but if there is no weight slip I'd be highly suspicious. Most important thing to remember is if sounds too good to be true it probably is, I delivered coal to more than a few places where the dealer was servicing the house for a decade or more where they were getting shorted by as much as 1/3 on a ton.markviii wrote:

Central Maine, last I looked, was $263 to $320 per ton for bagged, $283 per ton for bulk. Costs a lot to truck it here. A couple dealers are talking about bringing it in by rail, but I don't think either is doing it yet.
This is my first year burning coal and when I called to get a price in January it was 236/ton , in March it went to 270 ! These oil prices are also driving up the costs of trucking coal to suppliers! It still is way cheaper than oil and who knows about next year!

I still call around my area of mid coast Maine to get prices and availability. Usually they start dropping the price in April to get rid of their stock and make room, but it is still holding right now. The following prices are as of Saturday 4/5/08.

Coastal Coal $6.99/40 lb bag (not sure of brand) $335/ ton for bulk
Ames Supply (Kimmel) $7.25/50 lb bag
Storer Lumber (Blaschak) $5.95/ 40 lb bag (out of Nut)
Knight's Supply (Out for the year)
Union Agway (Kimmel) 7.95/ 50 lb bag

Where on the river? I am north of newburg. Looking for a good supplier.stockingfull wrote::-k Better extend the price categories so you get the whole bell curve in there!
My "summer delivery" price ($5/ton less) for rice delivered to my bin, just 5 miles from my supplier, will be $208.70/ton. Last year, it was $193.
I'm on the Hudson River, between West Point to my south and Newburgh to the north.
Here in RI, 1 ton of bulk rice delivered just cost me $269 (delivered). Went up $6.beatle78 wrote:Here in RI, 1 ton of bulk rice delivered just cost me $263 (delivered).
I burned through the 1 ton I ordered in the middle of February so I had 1 more ton of rice delivered last Monday, March 31st.
I bought around the same time in Feb. & for some reason it burns much faster. The last ton you got on Mar. 31 is from a new truck load. If you don't mind could you let me know if you see a difference. Thanks.beatle78 wrote:Here in RI, 1 ton of bulk rice delivered just cost me $269 (delivered).
