I've used a bug zapper for the past several years.
In the fall before it starts getting cold.
They are attracted to light to find a warm place for the winter.

Those look like squash bugs to me. We sprinkle sevin insecticide dust on the main stems of the squash plant to help control them. We're careful not to get dust on the squash itself or the blossoms so it doesn't get the bees.
Aaaah, thanks... I'll let my wife know...rockwood wrote:Those look like squash bugs to me. We sprinkle sevin insecticide dust on the main stems of the squash plant to help control them. We're careful not to get dust on the squash itself or the blossoms so it doesn't get the bees.

Must be the stink bugs don't like the cold? I have never seen one in our area. That doesn't mean they aren't here, but I have never seen one in/on the house, or in the barn. Cluster flies are a different story...last fall and this spring was terrible.
2011 seems to be the year of spiders. I have never had so many cobwebs on the siding. Last weekend I pressure washed them off and sprayed their favorite spots with "Home Defense Max". It must do something, because about 2 minutes after I sprayed the house spiders started crawling out of the cracks and dropping on the ground.

AH - HA! My wife read up on the Squash Bug... It is also called the "Squash Stink Bug", the brother of the more common Stink Bug. Sooooo... as Smitty says.... "SQUASH IT"
Looks like common bread floor sprinkled lberally on the Squash Plants will kill them. It gums up their mouths or something.... I wonder if flour would work on our politicians (oooops, wrong thread )
