Hi,

Cruising the boards, I read an older post by Stokerman, detailing an EFM hand fired boiler. He showed a picture of 3 fire brick placed accross the grates when burning wood (dual fuel stove). This should be done, he said, to prevent warping the grates.

I burn a Hitzer 82F, which likewise, is designed to burn coal, bit too, and wood. I have no plans to burn much wood, but I may do so at some point. Would wood burning create more heat than anthracite? Is warping grates a concern when burning wood (or bit.)? Intuitively, I would think coal burns hotter than wood.

Pete

Coal burns hotter than wood. No need to put anything on or over the grates.
