3 Guys Walk Into a Hotel

Here's a good one to tell your kids:

3 guys walk into a hotel and each pay $10 for a total of $30 for a room. the clerk at the front desk realizes he overcharged them $5 so he summons the bell hop and tells him to take the $5 up to the room.

He goes to the room and explains to one of the three friends that they were overchrged and gives him the $5. Realizing he can't easily split $5 between the three of them he gives the bellhop a $2 tip. So each friend gets a dollar back and spent a total of $9 for the room.

3 x 9 = 27

plus the 2 the bellhop has = $29 , Where did the dollar go?

$30 minus the $5 that was over charged equals $25 so each man paid $8.33 $8.33 times 3 equals $24.99 plus the $1 for each man in over charge equals $27.99 plus the $2 tip equals $29.99 so that means one of the men actually paid $8.34 instead of $8.33.

8.34 + 8.33+8.33+3.00(over payment)+2.00(tip)=30.00

It works better when you tell it.

Hotel keeps $25. Bellhop keeps $2. Total of Hotel income is $27. Each man paid $9. 9x3 = 27. This problem made me obsessive/compulsive all day, thanx
