Came home and it was still chugging along. I didn't have the heart to let it die seeing as it was determined to just keep burning. So, I shook it down, got a lot less ash than I had though I was going to get and refilled it. We've only got one more day of the 70* weather. Thursday is gonna be back in the 50*s - 60*sduring the day and the 30*s - 40*s at night.

Looks like I'm still in the one match club....at least for now.

HI Fire I have a Chubby on my porch in Maine. Same heat wave (for Oct.) hit us this week also. I use a table knife to space my air vent on the stove. It still gets real hot in this kind of weather. I usually run 24 hrs but 36 hrs needs a little help from Mr. Matchlight to get back. Opening a lot of windows doesn't hurt either. Gotta love the Coal Chubby. (Ihave two)Good luck with your stove. Yeah, it was around 85* in my house all week with the windows open. But woke up this morning to find it 43* with a high of 50* so I filled the Chubby and opened her up for the day. Hopefully that will be the last of the warm spells for a while. As much as I'd hate to say it, but I'd like it to get colder so I can finally figure out how to set my stove with it being below 40*.

Damit!I'm Out
Woke up this morning and she was out

I was going to give it a little shake last night and let her breathe a little but fell asleep.
It figures I suffered through 90 degree house temps now when its going to be 5 for a high today and low 30's tonight she pooped out on me.

Well she is lit again after 3 cups of coffee and 5 smokes

Is there a 2 Match club :?:

I agree on the pre Nov 1 mulligan. You just can't be held responsible when the temp gets back up in the high 70's after dipping into the 30's! :)

I'm a bit further south than most of you so I haven't had the need to fire up yet. This weekend will probably be the start of burn season for me so I'll see how long I can stay in the one match club. I never make it through the whole year because I shut down about 1/2 way through to clean out the fly ash in the horizontal pipe run.

Fired up the AHS 130 boiler today. About a week later than last year. I'm not really a one match guy. It's one flint stone spark to light the torch that then lights the Anthracite. A cozy 74 deg F. inside, 42 outside at 11 PM

I will be lighting the match later this morning. I would have done it last night but I wanted to be up and around to monitor the Carbon Monoxide alarms just in case there is something wrong with the black pipe connections. It seemed counter productive to be warm but dead in the morning. :(

PS. It seems to me that any lighting of matches before NOV 1 is purely for the sake of bona fide research and as such shouldn't count against membership in the 1 Match Club. That's the perfect time to learn how your stove best operates; when you don't really need the heat.
