Anthratube boiler on Ebay, Not mine

PostBy: gaw On: Thu Jun 14, 2007 10:25 pm

I think Greg needs a load of pea coal now. If you want maybe we could find a garage or shop with a block and tackle and set your new toy in the bed of the truck and you can haul a load of pea in the trailer. Another long drive back! :sleepy2:

Thanks for cheering for me, I sure hope this boiler lives up to it's reputation and hype!! The owner claims to have burnt only 7 tons for a whole year, even running it for the summer for domestic hot water. That's about what I burn in two months in the winter!!

The seller has not contacted me yet, I have to arrange payment, get directions and arrange a time. I know it won't be this weekend, a good chance for next weekend.

I have a tri-axle trailer that I've considered putting sides on and hauling coal in, it is quite long, so I think I could put the boiler up front on the bed, and the coal 'box' behind, over the axles and carry 6+ tons of coal. I need to do some preliminary measuring and engineering this weekend when I get back to Michigan.

Thanks again for all the support and help.
Greg L.

I somehow feel personally responsible for this choice you made, so if it doesn't work out I'll be happy to take the load of scrap off your hands! :P

You are going to have a lot more free time (and money) this winter Greg, enjoy it. :)

:) Congratulations on winning the Boiler Greg, I was hoping somebody on the forum would win it, I was a bit amazed how much the price shot up towards the end of the bidding. Good luck with it.

I too was surprised to see the final price, but I was still a bit below my max bid. I'm pretty sure this boiler is the 260K model which is more desireable for my application. The measurments given by the seller match the 260K boiler.

I will probably get the boiler home within a few weeks, I'll take lots of photos when I'm checking it out. The cut-away drawings on the AA website and the AHS site do not clearly show how everything is set up and how the boiler water flows and the coal heat flows. So I'm looking forward to a little 'informative disection'.

Greg L

I fixed it JC :)

OK, big update! The unit is on the Susquehanna in a little town called Herndon (zip 17830). It is on Riverside Ave. (17th house on the right, address unknown by the owner!). The appointed meeting time is still 8:30 Sunday morning June 24th, Gary the owner is going to meet us.
Should be a fun exercise for those in attendance!

I plan to. There is a lot to compare with an AHS coal gun. The claimed improvements in the Eshland/AHS design are a ceramic heat shield at the combustion blower, pipe thread type domestic hot water coil, different internal water passages to keep heat away from the blower shaft bearings and separate grate motor. All that said the A-A antratube has had many years of reliable service for many, many customers. It will be the first time I've seen one. Worth lifting a few pounds. :-)

Oh man, I'd love to come along to this coal boiler 'geek fest', but I just can't get away from work right now - too busy getting the '08 model year into production.....

On top of that, I've got my own Keystoker project to finish up and start getting installed down in the basement.
