My new coal burning buddy EFM 350

:) Thanks to Scrapper (& Ann Marie) and Coal Berner. My Nephew and I went to PA Wed afternoon and picked up my new heating appliance for the house. Great people, I had fun chatting and picking up the new to me 350. Scrapper set it up w/ S-20 and I should be more happy for a very long time. I had to take the base apart to get it off the truck myself. We didn't get home til Thurs morning at 2:30am. And both Thurs and Friday I had to work but I have managed to get a bit done already. Please don't mind the mess, Boiler is going in my shop. Im very excited to get 'er up and fired! :D .

As I was told, all panels, joints... all sealed with HI temp RTV both inside and out. Around the S-20 mounting blocks and auger tube assembly. Getting closer!! ;)

Thanks guys, yes I'm excited for sure :) . Copper? Wow, the price at a estimate about knocked me over, lol. Nope, gonna use pex. Work came to a stop already. I had to put a stoker together today so I can sell it. I hope to have the EFM up and running in a couple weeks but would like to use the sale of a stove money instead of savings. I love working on the stokers but they are starting to pile up. I have 2 Alaska Kodiak Stokers, that Econo1, another Alaska Channing and a Keystoker Hearth. Not counting the DVC-500 in the house that will be up for sale after a good long run with the EFM.

I gotta say that Coal Berner has gone beyond being nice and helpful. He continues to listen to questions I have. He took me back to his house and showed the 520 he has running in his house. What a great setup he has, and then he gave me the plastic blue barrel to use as a temp hopper. I am very thankful and appreciative to his help and knowledge.

What a week, my wife is due with our third child any day ;) , went tp PA and met Scrapper and Coal Berner and got the boiler, bought another stoker(lol) and work issued me a brand new AR-15. :D :D

I have lost track of the cost of the copper and fittings for our EFM install. Ballpark is $800 for 20' of 1.25" copper, elbows, unions, ball valves, circulator w/ isolation flanges, new expansion tank, and other adds/ends.

Is this going to be a stand-alone install or is the EFM tied in with another boiler?

I have to admit that the $$$ is in short supply right now, that's one of the 2 reasons I haven't gotten much done. The other reason is time!

Agreed, JC has done a lot for many of us and for this forum.

She is a nice look'in unit 8-) It's a shame to cover her up with the pannels. Wonder how many btu's would be lost without the insulation. The axeman someone posted at 5,000 btu's lost by square feet and temp, if the figure is correct. I thought of making covers but it seems to keep the heat under control.

Well, I finally got the pex in. I did not expect it to look this way. Only other pex I've seen was non pex al pex. This suff looks nice, shiny outside, same color as the ceiling and wall it will be running along. When I picked it up, it was cold. But wow, is it stiff. I hope it works a bit easier when I get it warmed up. One step closer.. :)

Yes that's the good stuff for hydronic heating systems. Meets spec ASTM F1282. Here's the spec sheet:

http://www.roth-usa.com/usa/pdf/Roth%20 ... 20PAP%20(2).pdf

You may need to create an account to get to it. I did. Looks like there is a fair amount of installation data on the web site. Suggest you take a look.

Stiff is good, especially when you get older. :-)
