alaska 140 auger ash build up

I just bought a used 140 auger i took it apart cleaned it up and replaced all gaskets. It seems to burn fine but the ash dont seem to fall off the ash ring. It will build up a good 6+ inches all the way around the ring with no clinkers. I do knock it down twice a day. Is this normal? If not how high should the ashes build up?
