Good morning! You're probably wondering why you all got piled into the Black Gold Bus this morning....we're headed to the Mason Hall for a hunters breakfast! You don't need to be a hunter.....I'm not.... it's just good food, good friends, and an endless cup of coffee. Come on, get in, you'll be happy that you did. Buckle up, we can chat on the way.
Man-O-man, the crap is hitting the fan over in the one match club! Aces Over is out....Coal Trickle got caught sleeping at the helm.... and now there's more excuses for a second match than there are blueberries in today's pancakes! <evil grin> Yaaa, OK, You got me, I've been there under the guise of "testing". It's a fun club to dance in, but sometimes reality gets a grip & a Mulligan seems fair. I see Yanche has lit up, he's usually a one matcher. The temps took a big drop the last day or two. I think anyone is safe to light up now.
Welcome Frontier Woman. She's a new Forum member....reminds me a bit of Lowfog when she first got here. Stuck in the learning curve, ducking the curve balls that come at you when first learning. I'm sure she'll be running smooth in no time now that she's found us.
Looks like we're here, everyone out of the bus! No need to hurry, there's plenty for everyone. Stay as long as you like. The bus will shuttle every 30 minutes until noon, then you're on your own. Enjoy the day!

Thanks for the black gold buss ride this morning. Coffee is warming my hands already Ah yes, the holly grail of the One Match Club membership card! I have a famous neighbor Coal-Trickle made above the fold in Freddie's Coffee blog! I've give up on trying to keep my card but not Freddie's coffee. After enough years of knowing It can be done, I decided a few years ago It is not always worth wasting the coal and enduring the excess heat. After all, I too have plenty of left over matches Once it gets near Thanksgiving, I reach for the grail. I do have a small collection of past membership cards pinned to the coal bin wall
Enjoy the day!

Morning all. At work again. Deer season starts today! The hunters breakfast sounds great Freddie! There is one in town today at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Just had a guy from there stop by to ask if any of us wanted a "take out" breakfast. He'll be delivering them in about 15 minutes. Eggs, toast, homefries, bacon, ham, sausage links, and homemade beans. All for $6! Yum, yum!
The K-6 is purring right along burning about 45lbs per day. I could've held off a little longer this year but I was almost out of #2 and I didn't want to pay close to $3 a gallon. I bought 6.25 tons of the black gold this summer, so I figured it was time. Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for the lift, Freddy! Tried getting my hunting license based on what I read in a rule book for MA .... but apparently the law changed without me knowing (surprise, surprise .. ), but I'll dig into this great breakfast you have here & forget about all that!
Match #2 was struck last night. Hopefully there won't be a #3 .... but this is New England here, so you never know when that next 75° day could pop up -- more than likely mid-January!
Got the wifey's beater all registered (I'll post another rant on that elsewhere ...), new old windshield installed, and ... a nice REJECTION sticker ... with the RED "R" .. you know, the one that screams: "PULL ME OVER IMMEDIATELY!!" Turns out I should've used a prybar to check the ball joints. No biggie - I'm actually glad they found it. My wifey will be driving this thing 80 miles per day, after all. So ordered me up a bunch of parts that should be in next week. I tried to used the ball joints from the Jimmy, seeing that they were only 2 years old ... but, after all the work of tearing them out THEY'RE JUNK! You gotta be kidding! 2 years & 35,000 miles. When I got a sticker for the '07, the guy said my lowers were on their way out at 3 years, 42,000 miles. I don't know whether to be mad at the quality of materials here or the condition of our roads here in the "great" "common"wealth of MA, where the wealth is common among politicians & people east of 495 ... But that's a topic for another section!
Had to take one of my kitties to the vet yesterday. $800 later ( ya - I said the same thing!!!), he's got a tooth removed. This was my brother's cat that we took in after his divorce. When it was a kitten, it fell off something & broke a fang. Well, 7 years later it was looking pretty bad, so it had to come out. At least the vet is cheaper than people doctors! I coulda done this with whiskey & pliers for free, but I like the little guy. He's enjoying his soft food diet & seems to still be buzzed on pain meds -- he's awfully friendly now.
Got some things planned today, so I'll be back later on with a report. Later folks!

MOrning all...coffee is almost done...32 degrees outside, supposed to get in the 50's.
Just received my $150 gas bill for 2 months...so, looks like the stoves will be fired up shortly.! Got my 4.6 tons a week or so ago, so I am ready. Normally it's about Nov. 1 or so when I fire up.
Heading to a living estate auction to see what they have to day, lots of antiques, woodworking stuff, etc...nice old Victorian (mostly what we want to see!)....should be fun, even if we don't buy anything.
Working around the house later, maybe put the mustang up for the winter into storage.....
Enjoy

One-Match-Club, Heck.... I believe in the One-Lighter-Club. Sorry guys, but this lil stoker is E-Z to shut down and start up again.
LOTS of deer movin around now, including a few buck sniffin the doe cr@p. Its awful early in the season for that to be happenin.
Had another prospective buyer walk thru the house yesterday, but it was very strange.... They got here 45 minutes late, and only spent 5 minutes in the house! Whats up with that? They must not like Early American Rustic with natural wood throughout. Oh well....
Back to splitting wood today.

Ah yes, early morning breakfast prior to opening day big game. We had our own ritual back in the day.
We stayed in a very rustic two room cabin on the mth side just outside of Tower City. No electric, no running water & no bathroom. One coal oven, propane lanterns on the ceiling and a propane heater in the corner. A large dinner table with about 14 chairs. And not two chairs the same. Men sleeping on the cold floors & old sofa's while the old man usually stayed up all night with a single oil lantern burning. His hacking from cig smoking & black lung would wake you up a few times at night. The squeak of the screen door, the sound of the heavy wood door shutting or the sounds of men walking along the outside porch. All familar sounds I'll always remember. At 0500hrs the pots would bang together & we all jump up still hungover from earlier that morning. Old coffee, scrambled eggs & crispy/burnt bacon was on the menu. At daylighht, we either drive to Lykens or stay close to the cabin to hunt. I think ohe old man asked each of us to donate two cans of food & $2 ea per night. Was it worth it? I think so. Stu, where have you gone?
Thanks for the memories Freddy. Good Morning everyone.

Thanks for the ride Freddy, sorry about the slobber on the windows and the boogers on the seat but I got lost in the past and thought we were going to school. We have a cold morning in PA today but the weather man says mid fifties ‘till its over. Tonight many communities have their trick or treat so I’ll have to be on the lookout for evil spirits. I have my supply of Holy Water ready to fend off any attack that comes my way.
All you New Englanders; the folks at D D Bean & Sons in Jaffrey, NH are lobbying against membership in the 1 match club, they are endorsing the match a day club.
SMITTY; you must have a black cloud following you. I feel your pain with the ball joints. I went through it with an ’84 S10 pickup and now I have a 2000 Old Bravada and guess what it needed a year ago? If you want to be cynic you could say it was designed that way by GM so that they would have a known cash flow coming in, kind of like ink cartridges are to the printer manufacturers.
It’s nice to hear the kitty is doing OK. It sucks when your pets get ill and it sucks even more when you see the vet bill. At $800 I believe that vets in Mass are a little more expensive than they are here in central PA but I never had to have a tooth extracted from a cat.
Have a good weekend everyone.

I love coming to breakfast with you'll! It reminds me what's great about the United States and in times such as we live I need that.
We had our first frost warning last night - 38* - so I'm lighting the match and the NG will be turned off for the season. I have nothing on my schedule for today. What a concept! DK has gone for a motorcycle ride with his "GANG" to the Shenandoah Valley to see the leaves. I'll check back by later to let you'll know what I managed to get done in my unscheduled "free" time. Have a great day! Lisa

I think we must've had a first frost last week that I missed - the tomato plants are stone-cold dead & brown.
Too cold for me to hop on the scooter. Was 32° this morning! Times that by 80 mph ........ BRRRR!!

I've been in the one match club for a couple weeks now. Boy that Mk I idles down nice.
Only one more week though. Going on vacation starting the 5th. Can't wait.
Any members in the Gatlinburg TN area? Just a fore warning, the whole clan will be in town!
More than a dozen of us.
Until then, I'm strapped to my bench here at work and am "looking forward" to more when I get back. My night shift guy will be out for through Thanksgiving so I'll have two weeks of 13 hour days. Feels good to ring the register just before Christmas.
Until then, thanks for the coffee and breakfast!

Off to the church manse today to keep picking away at the disrepair that shows after many years of neglect. I better have a hearty breakfast but not too hearty or I'll want to take a nap. I had to ask my dear lady friend to please wait until I declare the paint job finished until she points out "You missed a spot!" (A missed spot is known in the painter's trade as a "holiday"). Amazing house from the mid 1800's era, just found another pottery shard next to the foundation yesterday. I don't know if there's any ghosts in the place, but I did hear some distinct banging the other day, coming from upstairs! I hope it was zone 2 of the heating system! I've also smelled cigarettes and pipe tobacco when there's nobody there but me..... yesterday I was on the roof buttoning up a sloppy air-conditioner opening when I looked inside, and the bedroom door was banging! (OK it was windy..)
I forgot it is Saturday and have to go brave the NJ Home Depot weekend do it yourself crowd, need a couple more bags of mortar to point up the masonry work. The structure of this house reads like chapters in a book, the original bank house had a thick stone foundation, eventually they added a second floor with brick walls, 2 shed dormers, a back kitchen, and a sunroom. I need to find time to finish my draft inducer installation!
