UAE too many fines

PostBy: steveyrock On: Sat Oct 30, 2010 4:22 pm

Hello everyone
I decided to get a ton of UAE rice coal this morning and am not impressed. My load contains globs of coal mud all the way up to several chestnut size chuncks do to cross contamination at the bins from the way they load. This stuff is that fine in size it would not slide down my metal coal chute.
This is what happend to me and others may have no issues but the Buckwheat they had looked more like the Rice coal I am used to getting at two other well known breakers.

Possible trouble in Black Gold Heaven ? Brock,if your out there,I know you and the CoalFire have moved much Tonnage from UAE. Have you run into this situation ? Steveyrock, did you pick-up direct yourself,or was this handled by someone else delivering to you ?

Everyone has a bad day once in a while, unfortunately that trip was yours. Don't give up, just mention what happened to you, and I'm sure they will correct the issue. No one will be able to change anything they don't have knowledge of.

Any operation that has bins of different sizes like concrete plants, sand and gravel, grain, asphalt plants, coal breakers, etc have issues keeping things things sorted perfectly after initial sizing, hence we have to double check ourselves. An eight cubic yd loader bucket could have only two pieces of a different size stuck because of a rainy day, and I for one wouldn't ask the operator to do more than they do now to be careful. I've been doing the TT load thing for 38 years, and don't have a complaint yet.

One bad incident that 100,000 read about is hard to resolve. Hopefully UAE will still be your choice, and I know they will make sure you are satisfied when you leave. :D

Hey fellas
Yes I drove to Harmony mine for this load and they loaded with a skid steer loader.I am not knocking the quality of the coal and maybe their rice coal is sized properly.I just never had any that fine with so much slushy fines.
The Buckwheat looked more like the rice I have gotten from other breakers and I will get the buck next time if the rice is that small.
as I stated this stuff would hardly slide down my chute and thats a first,I was reminded of anti skid fines that the state puts on the highways in the winter time.By the way, it burns very good I just need to look it over before I get loaded next time.

Took the wife's Dodge Ram up to coal country a few days ago. Met up with coal berner on Oct 21st and he guided me over the mountain to the UAE Harmony mine. All the bins had plenty of coal. Loaded up with 4 tons of nut at $150/ton. Used a 6x12 U-Haul and had them load the trailer with 3 tons and put 1 ton in the Dodge Ram. Very friendly service with a smile and a wink at the weigh in & out. They even used their air compressor to pump up the trailer tires a bit more just to make sure they did not overheat on the long ride home. Every thing looked rock solid with the trailer and truck. U-Haul has very solid equipment and I was tempted to load another 1/2 ton but I think 4 tons will get me through the winter so did not bother with the hassle.

A big thank you for your help, JC. Will let you know how this burns in my Warm Morning 523.

Anthracite Barley 3/16 x 3/32
Anthracite Rice size 5/16 x 3/16
Anthracite Buckwheat 9/16 x 5/16
Anthracite Pea 13/16 x 9/16
Anthracite Chestnut 1-5/8 x 13/16
Anthracite Stove 2-7/16 x 1-5/8
Anthracite Egg 2 x 5

The reason why the coal is not as cleaned as the other two breakers you go to is UAE Harmony Mine is not a breaker / Coal Processing Plant . It is a Deep mine that Pulls the raw coal out of the Ground and uses a crusher to break and sizes the coal on screen tables / shaker table they do run water over it But it is not like a true coal breaker / Processing plant
were the coal is crushed floated to separate the rock from the coal sized and washed a few times before it goes into breaker bins or outside on the stock pile . UAE Just take it out of the ground breaks it up sizes it and sells it .
Also How do you know that the other two breaker are not selling over sized coal Mixing the sizes together to get rid of one size or to stretch out another size. Bottom line with their coal it won't matter if you have some fines in it the btu value and low ash content will make up for the fines in it especially when you realize you don't have to take out the ash pan for several days.

Thanks for the explanation JC,I understand what you are saying and can see how the fines are left in the product.
You are correct in that it gives low ash in the pan.Yeah it is good stuff,I have been burning it two days now.
I am going to try the Buckwheat next load.
