Comments on Berner's UAE Harmony coal

Berner told me it is easier to start and it is. It burns to a fine ash powder. Very little bone left over.
The ashes are salmon colored. I'm guessing this means there is iron in the coal ?
Also it has an ever so slight sulphur smell. Not strong but just enough to notice sometimes.

The flames are dark blue and they really dance nicely.
This coal and it is noticeably better than the Reading which leaves a lot of bone in the ash, is harder to light and does not produce the of heat this coal does.

Anyone have BTU numbers on Reading coal and/or UAE Harmony coal?

I think he said 13.6000.....BTU's

Having burned both in the hand fed and the stoker I can say there is no comparison between the two. Reading is good or average, will burn and make heat, but Harmony is great, makes lots of heat and is easier to light. Once you burn Harmony coal you really don't want to go back to Reading.

I've read a few post from those who have burnt UAE that there is one coal which might even be a little better - "Superior Coal" - but this coal is more expensive and harder to get in WP.

For me in WP, the UAE is about as good as it gets.

I've burned that as well, but from what JC says the quality isn't there right now.

Yep.......U.A.E. coal will bring a man to his knees. 2 years ago Superior did also. I always ask the main man whats good for the year before I buy. Now he did tell me of another small place that had good coal this year, I even wrote it down, but for the life of me I can't find that piece of paper anywhere Hope he chimes in.

I am 4 years straight with Superior and it is great. I do not see any less quality year over year.

I'm sure coalberner will post soon, my most recent purchases have been with his help from UAE Harmony mine/breaker.. I used to buy Superior, but their ash content is rather high right now, so I'm staying with UAE,, it's ash is in the single digits.. like 7% +/- The amount of ash is quite noticable since I'm heating about 6500 square feet of house and shop, so I do burn a lot.. just think,, if I burn 100# per day, then with UAE I'm seeing 7# of ash,, that's about a gallon or so by volume.. with a 14% ash content, I'm double that.. so my big ash tub fills twice as fast..

I'm 'all thumbs up' for UAE coal..

I just started using my UAE Rice. The ash content is about 50% as Reading or Blaschak. Easy to empty out the ash bin

Does this mean there is high iron content?

If there is high iron, does that mean anything importaant ?

i think the only important thing is that there might be a 1/2 to 3 carrot diamond lurking around in the mix. ???

Yes. It means 300 million years ago, your coal was formed during a salmon run. Just joking. Couldn't resist.
