Looking for all the coal dealers in north east Ohio? Anything within an hour of Geauga County. Phone numbers addresses $$$$$ etc..... Thanks guys

Thompson Bros. Mining - they carry ohio bituminous, Kentucky lump bituminous (great coal) and many sizes of anthracite. Not sure where they source their anthracite, but they're good people to deal with. Located in New Springfield OH, Phone 330-549-3979

I have burned Thompson brothers coal. It burns very well. Get their egg or lump for a hand fire. You won't be disappointed.

What would that price be?

When I posted that comment, rice coal was $275 for a 2400# pallet.

I got a pallet of nut from Byler just so I can compare different brands,I got It on Sept 25 so the price was $285.00 not $275.00 and I think If you buy 3 or more pallets It's $270.00(before Sept 1)The same goes for the coal I got from Bosler the end of July it was $205.00/ton delivered if you ordered 2 or more tons(brand ?)but I got 3 tons of South Tamaqua nut for $223.00/ton delivered in Nov(which burns good for me) I have herd that the coal from there is so so,try to buy it at the end of summer and don't wait until fall.Barry

If so, what kind of coal stove do you burn it in, and how do you like it. It's Kentucky coal to my knowledge. Would it work in an Anthracite burning stove such as a DS Machine, or would it just fuse up and result in a mass of clinkers that would jam up and destroy the grates?

Can a good grade of Kentucky coal approach the quality level (and performance characteristics) of anthracite?

a good grade of KY coal will surpass the characteristics of anthracite. Less ash, much more heat, faster and easier to build a fire, yet a smooth controllable burn: it will often have lower sulfur than anthracite (sometimes less than .5%) and burn longer. It will NOT produce clinkers and jam grates. It will NOT melt together and "bridge" - most good eastern KY coals are "free burning" they don't stick together like melted marshmellows in a fire. try some - get the lump (largest sizes that will fit in your stove) if it's available - the bigger the better. The only "downside" will be some powdery soot because unlike anthracite, bituminous coal will has a substantial hydrocarbon component.

Berlin, this is some great news! Thank you!!! I will be making a journey to Church Coal Firewood & Mulch in Akron to see what sizes (grades?) they offer, and check out their pricing. What do you feel is a reasonable price for KY Coal?

Can you offer any suggestions as to the type of stove (and/or boiler, as I'm looking there as well) that I should be considering for KY bit coal? Would either the DS Machine DS-1500 or the Alaska Kodiak be suited to the task?
