Price will increase do to fuel and electric cost going up.
Not that much different mining with men or machine in operating cost .
It is not cheap to run that machine what you will see is lower production in the coal coming out of the mine
so the coal supply will change might get hard to get coal from them.
Also you never know what the Gov. will do with rules and regs. Could make them shut down like all the other underground Anthracite mines are do to cost of the underground tracking system that the Gov wants them to install with the full cost coming out of the owner /operators pocket .
UAE is the only one operating right now in NEPA all other's are Surface mines.

Hmmmm.... That sounds awful familiar. lolcoal berner wrote:One year left of mechanical mining /with the continuous miner .Stoked wrote:Word has it that they have less than a year left at UAE before it shuts down operations. I live 5 minutes away and this comes from two employees. I'm going to be stocking up this summer because this is the best coal around. I have a feeling the other breakers will jack up their prices even higher then too. This sucks.
Then it is back to old school mining /real mining by men and not machine .
The vein is not staying flat starting to pitch so the continuous miner can't be used .
They can also go in the other direction for awhile with the machine .
I real don't think Jeff would of spent all the cash to buy the mine off the original owner if there was only a year left of mining . They also have another vein to tap into if need be the skid more runs at the bottom if you look up the road from
the coal bins you will see the vein face sticking out of the bottom of mountain.

Just got 1.5 tons of rice sitting on the back of the truck. Now to go shovel all that into my basement.. (And yes, I came inside just to post that first) LOL
Kidding, actually I had to come inside to unlock the basement and get the chute out.

Actualy all the deep mines are back in production for a while now except RS&W (the one from dirty jobs). Actualy there is a deep mine that reopened that has been idle for a couple of years. Permits are started on 3 small deep mines and 1 big deep mine. Reopening plans were filed for Kimmels deep mine. RS&W is going to come back online just not sure when yet. There is one mine that is just about out of mineable reserves and another that is starting to rob back but has a while doing just that.
They agreed to put the government mandated but imo highly unecessary in our mines tracking systems in. As of today there are only three mines with it installed and they do work poorly. At one mine it shows the guys on the screen as beeing in the mine but in reality they are in front of the computer in the hoisting shanty on the surface! The other mines all have plans in and approved by MSHA to install the systems as they come available. The bulk of the mines that were idle because of this went back to work in late august or early september. I'm in the unique position of being on the Anthracite Mine Rescue Team and we have to visit all the mines at least twice a year so I get to see whats going on at each mine site.

While it is ridiculous that they have been forced to install a system that doesn't work properly, I am glad that they are able to resume operations.
