My Hitzer 50-93 sits on brick in the living room but the floor in front of the stove is linoleum.
Im afraid to have a hot coal pop down during cleaning and melt the linoleum, cuz its just gonna happen!!
Where can I purchase a fire retardant throw rug to place in front of my stove? I figure this would help during cleaning if any hot ash or cinders falls on the rug and protect my linoleum.
Thanks

Welding blankets maybe? Not sure what's out there. Do you need it permanent (i.e. decorative) or temporary during cleaning only?

I'll start with a decorative permanent rug but if that can't happen then I'll go for a "roll up idea" that can be placed down during cleaning.europachris wrote:Welding blankets maybe? Not sure what's out there. Do you need it permanent (i.e. decorative) or temporary during cleaning only?

Find something that's 100% cotton if you can. That's naturally fire retardant and won't melt like a synthetic fiber rug. It still will scorch, but will protect the floor underneath.

Cotton can and will burn pretty vigorously once ignited (I came into a pretty good cotton fire at the plant on a Sunday a few weeks back, so I know the stuff burns very well and is difficult to extingush when there is a pile of it). The best two natural fabrics would be wool and silk as they will probably self extinguish any fire. Yes, silk is probably not going to be in front of your unit, I know. For synthetics the Aramids and Nomex are real good and some of the newer stuff has carbon in them.europachris wrote:Find something that's 100% cotton if you can. Wool would probably be the most cost effective. Save the silk for your honey.

perhaps you can buy a piece of fieldstone or other type of fireproof plate, then you can put a cotton or other type of rug on top. It will protect your floor from burns. nfire: I would not grab a hot coal until it cools. By then it burned through the rug to the linoleum. :violent3:Rex wrote:My Hitzer 50-93 sits on brick in the living room but the floor in front of the stove is linoleum.

I hope to have a good pair of Nomex gloves near by.Duengeon master wrote:perhaps you can buy a piece of fieldstone or other type of fireproof plate, then you can put a cotton or other type of rug on top. There are 2 companies that have websites for fireplace/stove/chimney supplies. I've ordered from them various items and they are reasonable. Your local woodstove/fireplace store has fire resitant throw rugs. In my opinion they are usually too high priced. Our Tractor Supply store sells woodstoves and carries a small selection of fire resistant rugs. I have one in front of each of my stoves and yes they are full of burn spots BUT not wifey's carpeting!
