When I left this morning for work, it was not too cold out, it got a lot colder through the day and is currently about 25* F outside. When I got home, my house was only at about 65* inside, much cooler than I normally run. So I opened up the bottom dampers, shook it and threw about half a hod of coal in. I had to go out for about an hour and when I got back home the wall thermometer says 77*. Stove temp is running about 525*. Heck, I have to back it down a bit. But my wife is smiling...

As they say, when Momma's happy, everyone is happy...

I'd be freaking out if my house was at 77* using my oil furnace. But with coal - it's like - expected to be this warm... My daughters now complain if the house temp falls below 72*...

I'm just as happy at 67° ... for at this temp with oil would cost TRIPLE! :eek2:

With no heat at all ... and outside temps at 40° or slightly lower .. the house would be 48° max. Don't ask how I know this .... BRRRRRRRRR!!

It's 13°F here in Central Pa tonight and I have the Harman Mark II and my stove temp is 410° with the bottom knob turned 1.25 turns open. It is 73° in my living room yet my feet are froze. I could make it warmer by running it at around 500° but I'm fine at current temp.

17 degrees here in central Maryland at 11 PM. Wind 7 MPH with 20+ MPH gusts. Forecast for tomorrow predicts the high temp will not reach freezing.

This mom is definitely happy! As I sit here in my 75* house, I can hear the wind blowing outside bringing our temperature down to 1*. Unfortunately, I'll be leaving in just a few minutes to go start the school bus. Burrr I tell you what, I won't waste any time getting home today! Take care, Lisa

..I just got my new to me (used) DS Machine circulator up and running yesterday for the first time..just in time no doubt..I was little nervous and apprehensive at first, burning coal for the first time in my life, but all seems to be well..three CO detectors through out the house..I did have to go through a couple of hours of new paint burning off the pipes and the stove that had been repainted..open the windows, and turn on the fans and all is good now..oil burner is turned down..yippee..so far I'm liking it..stay warm everybody..

The windchill is 0F here, brrrrrr. My hand-fed coal boiler is down for repairs, so I am back on fuel oil until we get this straightened out.
