Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 82ul
Coal Size/Type: Nut

Post by Santiago » Wed. Dec. 15, 2010 2:16 pm

Under normal situations, this question would be asked in April or May. However, we leave for Florida after the 1st of the year for the winter and the Hitzer has to be shut down. It won't be started again until next November.

Are there any specifics that should be done other than removing all of the unburnt coal and ashes? I will also vacuum the stove and remove the stove pipe. Some folks suggest placing some kind of moisture absorbent material inside the stove and plugging the stove exit with a cap.

My stove is in the basement where there is more moisture than if it was on the first floor of a home.

Thanks!
