Did I Make a Mistake ?

Went to an auction today and they had advertised 5 ton of buckweat. This stuff was ugly, loaded with fines and alot of wood chips, even feathers from the barn ,all in plastic barrels. I was told it was reading coal ? It was a size smaller than I burn and I don't think it was 5 ton, more like 3. The axemans can burn buck, I figured I would add some a little at a time, just more worried about problems with all the junk in it cloging the auger. It went for $260 so I did not bid. I figured $150 at most I'd go $200.

In my opinion you made the right choice. I picked up old feather and whatever ridden coal one time. Burned fine, smelled HORRIBLE! From the exhaust as well as the coal itself.

How many barrels...
55 gal right...
If they can not get the weight close...
There were other problems too...
Those wood chips came from the barn too...
Probably used...
They would get stuck and stink...

There were 21 drums, 10 were 55 gallon, the rest were half size and smaller, who knows what was on the bottom of the barrel. The stuff on top looked ok, dig down a couple inches and it was loaded with fines, blue plastic tarp and who knows what ? I know it was not alot of $ for the amount, just all the problems that could come with it. He burned in a hand fed, and most of the items at the sale were alike, more for scrap metal price. I did come home with 2 weed eaters, (full of pigeon poo) one echo straight shaft,$5 each, and it was running in 1/2 hour. The screws were out of the deflector and the darn thing must of been spinning as fast as the head , melted a little. Guess I may add a blade to this one.

Maybe the guy that bought it figured that the barrells were worth something to him. Good clean used barrels sell for $9-10 each around here.
