It will look great when done. I did my family room floor over with a tavern floor, those short pieces don't make it any less tedious. :)

All my boards are in, a little sanding, golden oak stain and some satin polly. Then the baseboard and paint. I am pleased but,it was a back, knee breakin' job. :)

Hats off to your for adding a ton of value to your home. When I was young I went to work installing these for a living. Needless to say I do not do that anymore. Next to roofing it is one of the harder ways to earn a buck. At least it was indoors. Nice work it looks great. Did you rent sanding equipment or did you have someone come in and do it?

I still have to sand and poly. I seem to have time, being laid off over winter the last 3 years. I'm thinking of asking the plant manager if I will be installing a new kitchen in Dec of 2011   Once the economy is better, the home improvements will have to stop. The carpet, floor installers earn their money!!!

An old family friend who was also my construction supervisor when I worked for a contractor was here when I was refinishing the floors. He said he did nothing but install hardwood for a good year back in the 60's. Also said he didn't have to buy a single beer either because he'd arm wrestle for them.

I do enjoy the results, my wife told me how much a friend was quoted to install hardwood. Not that I would mind helping with a small room, I shure don't want to make a career of it. I was to sore at the end of the day to even thumb wrestle

I feel your pain, I spent about 14 long days refinishing ours. About 1000 sq. ft.

They look real nice. Is that early american stain ? I believe I'm going with golden oak. I tried a few sample boards and it seems to blend the darker wood in. 2 bedrooms and 11  closets in the house all have hardwood that the golden oak seems to match.

Golden Oak, applied it with a sponge applicator on a stick. Something like a mop, had another guy following right behind me wiping it off. It wasn't on there that long.

Edit: the first picture most closely matches what it looks like. The second one is off because of the camera. Personally I thought it was about perfect. Not too dark, has a warm look to it. :)

Now the kids are going back to school :punk: I'm going to stain and poly this week, don't need any footprints. Did you roll the poly on ? I figure to just brush it in. I have the time(being laid off) and it gives me something to do. Minwax has some fast dry for floors that can be topcoated in 3 hours. I figure it will really stink  ,don't want to open windows this time of year.

You mentioned using satin poly and I wondered if you planned on using it for all or one of the coats you are putting on the hardwood? We went with first coat clear, then satin then clear again. That was the suggestion of the pro we used to sand, stain and coat the floors. The thought is that too many satin coats "fogs" the grain too much. It is personal preference of course, but just a suggestion that I have seen over and over again I thought I would pass along .
