Now we catch a break...

The worst of the storm passed way to east of here. We have some friends spending the week in Ocean City and they got about 12 inches. We will be lucky to get 1.5 out of it. The "powers that be" around here are more worried about the projected 2* wind chill. It's going to be nasty no matter which way you slice it. Take care, be safe and warm, Lisa

This afternoon I shoveled the rest of the coal out of the truck and into the bin. It was frozen, mostly around the sides and the bottom. I burnt up some coal thawing it out with the hose from my outside spigot which has hot and cold water plumbed to it. I managed to get it done before the winds picked up. It's all in the cellar and I'm warm.

First we had the Winter Storm Watch, then the Winter Storm Warning with potential for 6”-8” but the forecasters said 3” then 2 ½” and we ended up with…drum roll…0”
Now we have a Wind Advisory, they did get this one right. For those of you to the east I shall now observe a moment of silence as I contemplate the task of digging out that lies in front of you.

Ok have a great week; the weatherman is calling for a warm-up this week 41º for a high on Friday, I hope he’s right about this one.

A few inches of snow here, not nearly what was called for. It's windy as all hell though. I haven't figured out why we still have power, it should go out any second now.

Yeah, only abut 6" here, but drifting. A few trees are blown over. More firewood for next year. Gotta go clear the driveway now, my wife works for the post office and they never close.

Thankfully I'm home. No snow here.. But JFK got 16" of snow, with 40mph winds.. all last night... The east coast airports are a mess..

I'm supposed to be in JFK tomorrow evening at 5:30pm... I'm not sure Delta will have any open seats.. even in the cockpit for me to get to work...

But that's the life of a commuting pilot..

I couldn't go a day early... that was last night.. and I'll be damned if I'd spend TWO extra days in my crashpad just to make report time on Tuesday..

Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure out a way to get there..

Greg L

BTW, Christmas was great,, the family enjoyed the new house, and the kids didn't knock it down to a pile of rubble...

Well, just as I predicted we lost power for 2 1/2 hours. I manually fed the EFM a little, the boiler temperature dropped below my stoker cut off setpoint (L6006), I had to flip the bypass switch once the power was restored. I did not bother dragging out the generator. I was just about to when the power came on. Obviously the guy who usually watches this place (for the power company) and waits until I start the generator to switch the power back on must have fallen asleep.

I'm glad I went out at 10:30 last night to clear this property. Came back in around 1. The Snapper snowblower did the best it could. Damn gravel driveway ruins the fun. Sheared one shear pin the whole time so that's fine. I do not recall where I put my supply of shear pins last year. :(
The landlords did not even hear me, amazing how the snow muffles sound. It was great to be out in a blizzard! Beautiful. My wet clothes brought the humidity up to 30%, bonus. Just finished off, including 4 vehicles, and I found a coolant leak in my Ranger by noticing green antifreeze on the snow! Tightened up a nuisance heater hose clamp, glad it's not the heater core... :P

I'm not sure how I'm going to get to work.. Usually I go directly into JFK.. second choice is LGA LaGuardia and a $20 cab fare to JFK.. I could try Boston and then Boston to JFK.. But those flights are bound to be a mess as well.
I may offer to pick up a leg somewhere out west and fly it into JFK tomorrow.. There are planes stranded without crews, and crews stranded without airplanes.. it's a MONUMENTAL task to reassemble the rows of dominos that make the whole coreography of the big 'airline scheduling opera' work.

My flight is JFK -LAS [las Vegas].. there may be a captain who lives in Vegas who needs to commute home, who is in JFK and can fly it to Vegas, and I can ride Delta or Soutwest or ?? to Vegas, and opperate the second day's flight back to JFK on Wednesday.. but trying to get through to schedluling will be an hour on hold.. they are burried..

So I'll get up early tomorrow and catch te first chance into JFK or LGA.. and get into base.. and see what happens.. If I have a plane, I'm sure my flight will go, the operation should be starting to come together by tomorrow PM.
