fyi - MACK TRUCKS has developed a NG powered Class 8 heavy Duty Trucks for the military, as well as for New York City refuse trucks. It does work, and it works very well.

No question. When it works. It works great. But no one's house ever blew up from an oil leak.

FYI - Gasoline is just as nasty when a fuel line springs a leak..........

Long term prediction for crude oil will be well over $150/barrel. Hopefully with driving a big SUV I can help drain the planet of every last drop of oil, and then all the suppressed technology will come to light. We had electric cars 40 years ago, but you wont ever hear about them until the oil is gone. GM's EV-1 project was bought by big oil and scrapped. Keep trusting your government, they have your best interests in mind.... or NOT.

One good thing keeps coming to my mind about the people who Lurk,Read-Only And/Or Post here. They seem to be just a little smarter about looking for a better way to think and operate their daily living. They're willing to separate from "The Herd" and secure their Family's heat independant from Oil,Propane,Natural Gas and Electric resistance heat systems. This thread brings to mind one thing....Start to think calmly and rationaly about securing your other budget killer items needed for daily life with quality. Stick your nose outside and see where you may want to put that garden. How do I learn to do Hot-Water Bath/Pressure Cooker Canning to avoid the need for Freezers? How do I minimize my dependance on the Electric Co. Can I Co-Op with other Trustworthy Folks in the areas of Vegetables,Beef,Chicken,Pork,Seafood,Food Prep ? How about Coal,and Storage areas for it. Everything I've just listed get's whacked and gouged as Oil goes up. I'm not suggesting we all go Amish,but think about it for a minute....If you shield or insulate your budget from Oil Gouging,you've upped your security,stability and peace of mind....Makes for Saner,more predictable living in my book.

This is right up my alley.
I have two acres and decided I'd make good use of it.
It's never made any sense to me why people put so much time and money in to a lawn.
I planted seven fruit trees out front. Peaches, pears, apples and cherries for fresh eating and canning.
Put in three big vegetables gardens out back ang grow just about anything you can think of.
I start everything from seed indoors just about the first week in april.
We keep free range chickens for eggs, tick control and fertilizer for the compost piles.
You can't beat the taste of anything homegrown!
I'll put up some pics!

Oh, by the way. There's a great website called "Mother Earth News" all about homesteading and self reliance.

It's all about doing work that as a nation we thought we shouldn't do anymore. It's all about removing the "Golden Handcuffs" that we've placed on ourselves through habit and having good paying jobs that are falling from existance. If oil is $200 a barrel,and you don't have to be held hostage by it,then who's going to be ok? You Are ! Is it effortless ? Hell No ! But it's where we're at as a Country. We're starting to see things go back to where several generations of Family are living under one roof. Go figure......China's up and we're down.....Start making the moves now so that this thread is irrelevant.

EXCELLENT suggestions! The day may come when people in this country will come looking for food, because they cant afford to buy any because the dam government screwed them royally with massive deflation of their currency. Its happening. Farming is at an all time low, there are less farmers then there ever were, If the corrupt government would regulate foreign trade as much as they regulate the price of a gallon of milk, there would be plenty of JOBS in the USA.

Man Bob your batting 1000 so far, another awesome post !!! I agree 100%. I'm tell you those AHS and EFM boilers will sell like free beer at Daytona when oil is $200/barrel.... I know I'll buy one before that happens, but its gonna happen, rest assured. Right now, the FEDERAL GOVT is SCARED STIFF about Russia and IRAN no longer wanting to accept US DOLLARS for payment for oil.... If you havent noticed we have a rather strong military presence over in that general area, we've been there for 9+yrs now and counting....

It's good to see that folks are finally seeing the importance of local farmers too. Every day we're losing family farms to big agribusiness who poison us with chemicals and they could care less. Because it's all about profit! Check out a documentary called "Food Inc." You'll never look at food the same way again.

Family dairy farms has got to be one of the hardest ways to make a living.
A good friend of mine worked on his uncles farm for two years. He was milking 180 head twice a day.
That's a 24/7 job. Forget about vacations. If your sick, too bad. You HAVE to work.
I have no problem with the cost of dairy going up. Those folks earn every penny!
The price of gas and oil I have a big problem with. Because it's all about greed.
People better start thinking about what's really important here.
We know we can't depend on the government. And when it all comes down it's every man for himself.

My friends the only fault I can maybe find with most of the posts is that everyone seems to think if we get off oil the price of everything else will still be low. I`m going back 25 or 30 years but in the S.W. Pa. area there was a sudden shortage of NG, you had to build a new home with electric or oil. They were even telling people to disconnect outside sidewalk lights, the price of NG went up along with the others & all of a sudden theres more Ng. Its all about greed & the ones wealthy enough to control prices, if I had the funds I`d be stocking coal, it too will go up, if theres any solution its for everyone to save on any & all costs, every little bit will help.
