I stumbled onto this site while searching for shaker grates sold by someone other than the manufacturer and came across the posts by a member about the same furance we have. He had modified it and I was wondering how it all turned out. We just ordered the same draft induction kit and my husband was thinking about doing what I read about in that post before I even read it. My brother-in-law mounted a draft blower on the front of his wood burner that he built himself and it works really well.
We have a US Stove Hot Blast 1537 and have been using it for about 5-6 years, maybe longer. Burn mostly wood because of having trouble with coal. I grew up with coal but didn't really pay attention to what was going on. When we needed a new furnace I wanted the option to burn coal so this is what we bought. I have learned what I like and don't like about furnace construction since than but this was a lot of money at the time and we can't afford to buy anything else right now so here we are. The first couple of years we only had a triple wall stack. We built a chimney 2 seasons ago and the coal was burning better but I felt we were still not getting all we could from the coal. The first year we bought a mix of medium and hard stove coal and gradually went to all hard stove coal. Last year we could not get the coal to burn. You would throw the coal on and when you went back to check it the fire was out. The guy we buy it from told us he only has a few stove coal customers and bought his stove coal somewhere different from where he usually does and could only say it could have something to do with the breaker that was used. We still have most of the coal from last year so this year we added nut coal which catches really well and are gradually mixing it. We were hoping the draft induction kit would make it easier. After reading the 2007 posts about it, I printed them out. The poster included photos that will help with our installation. I was wondering how it worked out for him.

Welcome to the forum.
