Website Designer in NEPA

PostBy: Richard S. On: Thu Dec 30, 2010 3:06 pm

Nothing to see here. :D

This is test and just a test. Seeing how fast this post for website designer in nepa will show up in search results and where it gets placed.

Of course I should maybe add some text to give it a little bit of content volume. So how is every feeling today in Northeastern Pennsylvania and other towns and cites in the great norhteast US?

I often wonder how many graphic designers and others involved with development of websites understand the power of keywords placed inside of the content of a web page.

That's in web design marketing 101. How many know how not to have your web pages looked at by the search engines?

That will work however they are going to still load it.

The easier method is robots.txt

http://nepacrossroads.com/robots.txt

Lots of options including wildcards, specific rules for certain bots etc. If you really wanted to you could make it dynamic, detect the user gent and serve what you want.

I'll note you should be careful about getting nosy. Scrapers usually don't load robots.txt or obey it. Some sites might have hidden links with the page denied in robots.txt commonly called a bot trap. Anything loading that URL gets insta ban on the IP.

If you want to mess up the search engines you could also misspell a lot of the words in the text portion of the page as in this example from Richard's first post:
other towns and cites in the great norhteast US?

Yes, I get a lot of traffic with "Harmon" in the search phrase.

Many search engines use different methods for "crawling" but really you only need to worry about Google, Bing and yahoo. The other players are very minor. I remember when Altavista was the big dog and out of nowhere came Google and stole away all their clikcs. It's amazing what can happen when you have the right management team. I started Datecentral.com in 98. My partner was a jerk and I eneded up having him buy me out and then he ran the site into the ground. I should be on my yaht now. Match.com only had 1million users at the time. Yikes......
