Smitty, put on one of these outfits, http://www.newenglandtravelplanner.com/ ... s/007.html
and fire your cannon in your own back yard. If anyone complains, just say you are conducting a reinactment

Well ... if anyone complains I can always turn the cannon in their direction ... :woot:

My ol' man has a miniature cannon. Just by glancing at the barrel, I'd say it's at least a .75 caliber. He wants to sell it, but I think I'll buy it off him - would be a shame to see that go. Looks just like the one in the video, except it's all brass. Weighs about 100 lbs., at least! Neat little cannon. I'll snap a pic of it the next time I'm out that way.

What size / grade of Black Powder do you need for one of the big bad boy cannons? :?

Cannon Grade 2FA or 1FA?

The grain size goes up in relation to the bore I think. A small pistol could get away with the fine stuff, a 12" mortar would require something chunky.

We need one of those for a meet and greet.

Smitty could bring the Jimmy for the target !!!!!!

I have some old barn beams for some of the carriage framework.

Yeah!! the Jimmy would be ....no more..

They had one of these then a 8 inch then another and so on all around the perimeter of the fort. AND.. on three levels!!

they could bring 1100 guns to bear on a target... but by the time they finished, the rifled barrel came about and the pirates could shoot two hundred yards further!!

never a shot was fired! but it was Dr. Mudds home for several years.

must have been fun schleping all those cannons from the foundry's up north all the way to 75 miles from key west on a sail ship then hump them up 3 floors!! 8-)

I always thought the smaller the powder, the faster the burn, FF in the muzzle on a .50, and FFFF in the frizzen, for those of us with PA. flintlocks.
