topic read indicator

topic read indicator

PostBy: ceccil On: Sat Jan 01, 2011 12:49 am

Now using Firefox vs. IE because it is MUCH faster. The only issue is after I read a thread the indicator still shows it as unread. It will change once I read all of the topics under that section and then click on mark topics read. Is this a setting issue? Thanks.

There should be no difference in the behavior between IE or FF.

It's an unread posts indicator, unless you load the very last page in a topic it won't go to unread.

Even when I go to the last page it doesn't turn off. Only way it turns off is by clicking on mark topics read. Weird, not really a big deal just didn't know if it was a setting or something. Thanks.

Does this happen as you navigate using the back button?

This happens to me if I hit the back button .... sometimes. I got in the habit of hitting "active" at the bottom left of the screen at the end of the posts. That refreshes the page in a way.

Never crossed my mind but FF is not refreshing the page when you go back, I'm not so sure it's supposed to. This may be an IE bug that is working as an advantage, for example if you type something into the posting pane and then navigate away from the page and then try and navigate back to it with back button the text is lost in IE because it refreshes page. That doesn't happen with FF.

I've lost all my text on some different forums using FF. I think they have a different host ... or whatever it's called there ...

Man is that aggravating -- especially if I just finished typing for 10 minutes! :x

There's setting to cache the page, it's probably set incorrectly but that's not a bug. Just poor implementation.

The IE bug is well known, think it appeared in IE7 or IE8.

I'll look to see what I can do for this. In the mean time you can either refresh the page manually or use the breadcrumb trail and other links.

That's the ticket!! It does not go out if hit the back button, but if I refresh the page or click on board index it does go out.

There seems to be a bit of disagreement over this, from one of the phpBB developers:

http://www.phpbb.com/bugs/phpbb3/56925

It's not an issue at all ;) Going "back" doesn't imply a reload. I'd say that firefox is behaving correctly.

I think I'd have to agree with that, hitting the back button shouldn't refresh the page.

I'll add it to my "maybe fix list" for the future but I'll add it as user option if I do.

I would say that is correct, after backing it will be the previous page. You can cruise through multiple threads and it appears as none have been read if you keep returning to it. Only a refresh will clear the icons you did read when backing up in Firefox.

Richard,

I can't get the blue button to clear on the classifieds for Computers, A-V, etc. And there are no posts in that section.
