Both boilers are vertical fire tube boilers with turbolator baffles.

My silly question: Can you buy the boiler without any oil/propane/gas unit?

The oil gun is easily detachable, so I assume if you insisted they would sell you the boiler without the gun. The advantage of the dual fuel is that during the summer if you are using the boiler for hot water (like me) the secondary fuel source will be much easier and much more efficient for that usage.

Yes you can purchase the unit without the oil gun, however since that is the bundle as we normally sell it there is less price reduction than you think for getting it without. The gas burner is almost $600 more than the std config. with oil, so that option is less popular.

Would I be able to order the boiler less oil burner and hot water coil? If so what is the cost? I have a brand new oil boiler and want to pipe them in together for automated backup, and I run an indirect water heater.

Plumber, that boiler is designed with the coil so I'm sure you can get a blank plate over the tankless opening, and no burner, but don't expect much of a price reduction. It is like ordering a car with no stereo or no A/C. They are designed to be shipped as a package and it literally COSTS more to have those items deleted than if you order it as-is and remove it yourself. I sure understand your dilemma of not using it anyway, so why buy it, but I also understand the old Henry Ford comment: "Your new car can be any color you want.......as long as it is black!"
I know this won't enhance your holiday weekend, but call LL and hear it directly from the owners. :)

You can never have too many backups!
