Hitzer 82 convert to burn stoker coal

Is there a way to convert my hitzer 82 to burn stoker coal.
Probably not but had to ask.
Stoker coal is a lot easer to locate in South Dakota.

It sounds like your referring to stoker (bituminous coal) with your reference to south dakota. Try posting, or maybe a moderator will move it to the bitumious section. I know that you can burn bituminous in a hitzer 82, but i don't know the details. Maybe call the hitzer factory and ask them, they are a very helpful company to deal with. I'd definitely look in the bitumious forum.

Post a photo of a sample of your available stoker -sized coal.. does it have a lot of fines, or is it clean? Your Hitzer 82 will burn anthracite sizes stove, nut and Pea.. your Bituminous stoker coal is usually between nut and pea size.. but often has a lot of fines, the fines will mostly go to waste or cause sheets of clinker or fused coal, depending on your coal's burning characteristics..

Best way would be to buy a 1/4-1/2 ton and try it.

Well i tryed the stoker coal and found that it will work in a pintch but I have to scrap the sides the front and back and knife the coal on top just to get it to fall and then i loose good coal when i go to shake it.
I an planing on trying some from Wolf Mountian ( pea coal ) its 1 1/2 x 1 inch.
I think this will work a lot better will let you know.

Well t got some of the wolf mountian pea coal and it is a lot better to shake than the smaller stoker coal.
I got it from a hudrite colony 160 miles away a bit bigger size would be nicer but that is all that is avalible close
to home.
I can get any size i want for $90.00 a ton delivered to me but min order is 20-30 ton dont know how many years this will store with out degrading much.
Its allready small in size and i dont want it to
get mach smaller so i cnat use it.
Any one know how well this stuff will store?

If you're able to find bituminous coal rather than subbit trucked in for a decent price it will not degrade. I would not hesitate to order a truckload of bit and have it sit for 50 years; some subbit coals will degrade quickly and turn to powder, others might not. If you find bit trucked in for a decent price (it will, of course, be more $$ than subbit, but you get a lot more heat and less ash) post the specs and we will be able to recommend whether or not it would be good coal for home use.

Looks like this coal is 9300-10000 btu & ash is 3-5% & moist is 21-24 %.
What you think will this stuff store or is it doomed not to last more than one season?
If this wont work what will the closest source for good bit be?
I live in the central easteren part of South Dakota.
