Burning coal in our cape style house -we don't heat the upstairs bedrooms with any duct work-just registers, the staircase-and let gravity do it,and it works better than our oil furnace ever did or thought of doing. Our Harman is in the cellar- but it being a Mark 11,its just not quite enough to heat the whole 1st floor, but we don't run it at max either. We just bought our next stove-A Coal Chubby to finally replace the living room pellet stove!-and I'm so darn excited-we know it'll be fine now. Also have some more tweaking to do with the cellar stove, and the ductwork. The pellet stove only puts out 43,000,and not enough when the winds blow, and now we're quite hooked on the warmth of coal anyways. Now we also don't have to be careful about anything getting wet either. So I gotta say- the Mark 11 probaly isnt quite going to do it for you either.

wow- when it rains-it pours! We've done a complete switch around or almost- here! We came across a Harman furnace-hot air-for the cellar, and bought it.It only took us about 6 minutes to decide to do it.Its now sitting outside the bulkhead covered up,waiting to go in the cellar. We'll pull out the Harman Mark 11 that will go in the garage to keep life warm out there when needed, and the "Coal Chubby" will still go in the living room. The Mark 2 only put out 73,000 btu-while the furnace will do 90,000,and into the ductwork, comes with a phlenum. Two new insulated chimneys were ordered, as well as the new Chubby door and ashpan. The new and improved Chubby door is absolutely gorgeous. We'll probaly have more days than not that we wont even have to run the "Chubby",I expect. No matter what style the house is I wouldnt go from a furnace to a Harman stove,as much as I love mine, stay with the furnace.Think about putting a Harman or getting a smaller stove for the upstairs if u feel you need a little more and your layout allows it.We were going to sell our Harman-but since we like it so much, have decided to put it in the garage to extend my garage sale season, starting earlier and ending later.
