Can you run without the convection blower?

Can you run without the convection blower?

PostBy: Bity454 On: Tue Jan 11, 2011 4:29 pm

Can you run a pioneer without the distrabution blower and not overheat the other components like the combustion blower, or the hopper getting to hot etc... I turned mine off for about a half hour and just let the cieling fan move the air around and my foyer temps went up about 10 degrees. But i dont want to damage the other components or create a fire hazard, stove temp at 20% feed rate is around 475' and stack about two feet above stove at 180' with a digital laser thermometer!

Both of mine will run without Distribution fan, but I don't have an LL. Nothing in your Owner's Manual?

I, myself, would NOT run extended periods of time without it, especially if you are burning it hot. The hopper will heat up and possible cause the draft to pull back up the burn plate into the hopper.....

Can;t you just put a rheostat or something on it and slow it way down, just enough to wash the back of the stove off?

several years ago when I got my used Pioneer it had a corian top on it. I called Jerry at LL and asked him if I could burn the stove with the corian top in place or was it just a decoration for summer time. He told me not to worry about the top as long as the convection blower was on. He said to remove the top if I were going to use the stove as a radiant stove like some of his customers do. Personally I would not run it hard without the convection fans but it appears that it can be done.

There is a coal trol function that permits the convection fan to go off though only at very low feeds. Why the question since stove efficieny is based significantly on the maintenance of convection air ?

One other thing. I'm of some opinion that (especially on the pioneer since the top of the inner stove is closer to the flame) if you burn 30 or so you will begin (w/o convection air) to heat the upper part of the stove so much that the top will turn red, it may not melt though eventually it will warp and crack.

Certainly be a interesting experiment.
