Coal burner,

i would love to come and meet you guy's, but the Wife is ready to head home. and I would have to find something to do with them if I came anyway.

I should go to a hardware store, buy a broom and let her fly home ahead of us.

Hellow Everyone just wanted to remind everyone to bring along
A light jacket for the coal tour the mine will be 52F to 54F all
year round and it will be wet We will be down 1600 ft. under
ground Also wear some good foot Protection And for those
that are bringing trailer don't forget

A good lock to lock up trailer coupling because I don't think you would want to
drag around a trailer full of coal up and down this hills all day You will be

able to keep them in the Parking lot when we come back from the coal breaker
Ok Everyone See you Tomorrow Morning everyone Have a safe
trip in take are all :)

Hey BK, so close and yet so far eh! We had a great time and hope that you can make it in the spring.

Another successful event! The weather was perfect, JerseyJohn was the only one who rode to the event. Of course as MW Couger said you can't fit much coal in the saddle bags!

The folks listed in coalberners post before the event were there including some wives and kids as well. I enjoyed meeting MW, Jersey, Greyhound and Patch for the first time in person. Our tour guide at the #9 mine was a fellow forum member who burns buckwheat in a Gentleman Janitor. Not sure of his forum name, MT?

I highly recommend touring the #9 mine, it is raw and authentic, right down to the artifacts in the museum which are right out of the homes of local coal miners. You can take a tour at: no9mine.tripod.com/oldindex.html/ if you would like to see what it is all about.

Our business meeting was the longest meal in history, we closed the place waiting for our waitress to deal with, separate checks, shortages of prime rib, and other things which seemed simple at the time  The food was great and the company even better so no harm done, it was a nice time!

I validated the 6 ton coal express back to Carbondale with 1 ton of Rice and 5 tons of Buck. The old Dodge grew to a combined total GVW of 24,480! Was a slightly slower ride back to Carbondale for sure!

Common folks join us in the spring for the next meet and greet, it is well worth the investment in time and travel costs! :onfire:

Hi all:

It was a indeed a pleasure to meet some the great people on this forum, as well as a few spousal units and children. Thanks to Coal Berner for all the effort and legwork in setting it all up. Thanks also to Yanche and Matthaus for shuttling me around.

I'd never been to a breaker before so that was quite a treat. It was good to see something older than I am. The museum and mine tour were well worth the trip. It was rather humbling to see where and how the coal miners worked and still work. Manly men if ever there were any, even if they did burn stokers!.

On the ride up on my motorcyle at 5:00 am, it was so dark and foggy that I ran over a dead deer in the roadway. I caught a little air but landed safely. You wouldn't believe how much flesh is cooked onto the bottom of my engine; I'm tempted to try a chunk and see how it tastes! The trip home on the bike was absolutely freezing but by Wednesday I expect to start warming up.

Thanks again to all involved for a day of great fellowship and good food. I'm looking forward to the next outing.

John

Glad to see every body enjoyed the tour at the mine. I would have liked to have taken in a little smaller group that way I could have talked a little more about some of the veins of coal and mining practices. That was actually my biggest group I ever took in on a tour! Maybe next year.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. I couldn't make the 10 hour each way drive this time, Maybe in the spring.

Now, back to the AA boiler painting and rebuilding...
