I think that was called tough love, I was brought up that way also and so were my kid's!! I respect my parent's for the " Tough Love " I believe it was the right way of showing you between Bad and Good and that they really loved you! So many good sayings I've never heard before!! Keep them coming!

She's build like a brick s*it house. Round and round like the knob on a s*it house door.

It's colder than a brass monkey's balls. And it's not what you are thinking - the balls are the cannon balls on a sailing frigate and the brass monkey is the boy responsible for bringing the cannon ball and powder to the gunner. How about it's raining cats and dogs. Where did that come from anyway? Lisa

It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think your stupid, then open it and remove all doubt.

Why fart and waste it when you can burp and taste it.

Yes,I'm a berks co. native all my life. I been told before if I don't speek the dialect my father shure did. I'm a little on the DUTCH'Y side. My pa. dutch talk is very limited, my father said he would teach me but never did. Later I asked why not, he said he didn't want me to talk as backwards as he does, I DO ANYWAY  I do understand what he was saying, just my way of agreeing with what was said :)

actually I believe the monkey is the iron frame work that the stacked cannon balls were stored on and naturally they were always in a small pyramid stack and and the saying "it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" was just that...

at such low temps the "framework" or "monkey" shrank just enough to cause the cannon balls to tumble down and ...... ;)

colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra....
colder than a well diggers ass up in the klondikes....

Throw papa over the fence some hay. Make the light out. Can you catch flies ? Yes ,if they sit still. If you go pick'in cheeries with a young girl, don't look up, you'll go blind( as you cover one with your hand) but I'll risk one eye  Don't take any wooden nickles. Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Lower than a snake's belly in a waggon rut. The further I go, the behinder I get. You hit the nail on the head. If you are fishing for trouble, you better bring a big bucket. Don't start anything you can't finish. Grab the bull by the horns. If the rain keeps up, we won't get any more. A penny saved is a penny earned.
