I've gone through 4 tons so far running 2 handfireds.I started one of them in late Sept and the other one in late Oct.I just picked up 2 more tons from Lenigs today before the snow and colder weather move in.When the temps gets down in the single digits I run the stoves around 400*,and the rest of the time around 300*.That keeps the downstairs in the mid 80's and upstairs in the 70's.I love it .

I've used about 1.6 tons so far this season. Fired up 11/21. Was burning about 30-40# per day until a couple of cold blasts here in Western MA in the past few weeks. Now it's more like 60-70# per day, more when the temps drop below 10 or so.
How much natural gas for heat since 11/21? ==ZERO==!!!!

This is my first yr, I burned maybe 3-1/8 ton so far this yr, started in early October, heating 3500 ft^2, newer 1996 house w/ 2x6 construction. My VF3000 is in a detached well insulated out building, doing DHW as well to an indirect 80 gal tank. I bought 6.5 ton for the yr so I expect to easily make it through, probably will burn all summer too, unless I get ambitious and install a solar hot H2O heater. What a difference from last winter, moved in Dec of 09 and burned 700 gal of heating oil to keep the house at 60, now we keep it at 70 and took our electric bill from $200/month to $120/ month (had electric DHW prior). Many thanks for the people on this forum for all the great free information, people at work thought I was crazy 6 months ago when I was hand digging my 4' trench, now folks I don't ever really talk to are coming to my desk asking me about coal boilers, I imagine once fuel oil goes > $4 I will get lots more ?'s.
Not sure if anyone here reads popular mechanics, but last month's edition had a big article on alternate heating methods......coal didn't even get a mention, kind of crazy the stereotypes that are out there about it.

Little over 3 ton so far. Started Oct 2nd and haven't shut down yet except for 1 day when we ran out due to traveling at Christmas. Started with 4 ton and ordered 3 more. Heating 2400 sq ft poorly insulated 1900 house. Programmable t-stat set between 68 and 71.

About 2½ tons since mid October. My house is a 1100 sq ft A-frame w/ only 4" walls and a vaulted ceiling. The stove is in my basement and I have 3 ducts to the upstairs. I keep the upstairs around 72'F. The unfinished basement usually stays around 64-68'F
Tonight will be a test of my Magnum to be sure!

So far since October I've burned 1 1/2 tons of wood pellets upstairs.
And about 1 3/4 tons of coal downstairs. Not too bad.
About another what? three months to go, give or take.
This week comin' up is gonna be rough.

well, I thought I was burning alot of shiny black rocks, but after reading these post, I don't feel so bad. it seems more when ya hand feed the fire. hey, some people pump iron to stay fit, I pump carbon.
3.5 tons so far, burning since October.
house temp is 65 deg F while awake and home, 60 at nites. also keep garage , where the boiler is located at about 50ish due to heat from boiler and a thermostatically controlled radiator.
house is 1700 sq ft and poorly insulated, garage is 400 sq ft and partially insulated.
just my 2c, hope it helps.....
