Here is how I figured that.
Starting assumptions:
My house: 2,500 sq-ft (including heated basement). Your house: 3,500 sq-ft (including heated basement)
My area has ~6,300 heating degree days on average. Your area has ~7,500 heating degree days on average.
My coal consumption to date = 3.6 tons
3.6 tons x 7,500/6,300 x 3,500/2,500 = 6 tons
