I have gone through about 2 + tons so far and about 500 + of bit. I am running out of coal soon. I need someone on Craigslist to give me some so I don't have to buy any more.

I have burned about 2.5 tons so far, started burning mid October and never looked back. It seems the colder it gets the better it burns!

Started my new Kaa2 oct 15th or so, heating 3500 sq ft to 70-72. Burned apx 3.5 ton so far.

Burning "bargain" mix of smaller than rice, lots of slate and fines coal and refuse. So, I have to really put the air to it, which blows more up the flue than normal. At $150 a ton, and 10 miles from home, it looked like a good deal, vs $200 a ton for blaschak 30 ish miles away. I'm doubting that now. Very high ash, measuring weight of ash from X amount of coal. Apx 18%.

I'm still happy. I love my boiler. I hope to use less next year with better stuff.

About 3 tons, -15 out there tonight, burr! The ole VF 3000 is running flat out, but she's keeping it a toasty 70 inside. I had to put a fan on one of the big cast iron radiators in the back room to keep it 70. I should run my boiler temp higher than 150 I guess but I like a little range between operating temp and boiling temp. During idle times it can creep up a bit and I've found the circulator doesn't pump steam real well ;)

During the recent cold snap, I burned 50#/day. My normal winter rate has been around 30 #/day. Even running the stove hard, my furnace had to help keep the house warm when it was so cold outside. I like my stove, but it is a little undersized given the poor insulation of our house - it was originally built as a cottage. We plan to renovate in a few years, so improved insulation should allow the stove to better fit our heating load.

About 2 tons. Right on schedule. The old timers in Maine said, on groundhog day, you should have half your firewood left, and half your potatoes. Firewood, coal, whatever.

rberq, my grandfather used to say that on groundhog day you better still have half your wood and half your hay. He took meticulous records over the 90 years he lived on the farm, so I have no reason to doubt his advice.

I have burned 550 lbs since Sunday morning.

To think, one man living for almost a whole century on one farm! He must have known every pebble in every field, he would look at a 80 foot tree and remember when it was a pencil-thin shoot. His ghost must still walk around there, unless it has been paved over to make a car dealership!

Speaking of shoots: At the first house I owned, there is an oak tree that is probably 40 feet tall now. I turned a small field area back into lawn by mowing an area that the prior owner had let go. I vividly remember stopping in mid-stride as the mower ran up against the two-foot oak shoot, and thinking, "I'm going to let that stay right there." And there it stays.

Yup, that's how I've heard the saying.

I did look in my bin. I'll guess I've used a little over two ton this far.

I thought it was supposed to be warmer this week? Very close to zero every morning, if not just below.
