8605 Lb. Coal 0 gallons of #2 and 2 matches to heat 2400sq. to happy wife temperature. :D Must admit that the house did drop to 68F when outside was single digits and windy. That will be fixed with a bit of weather proofing in this 70s colonial.

Most forget that part, some even leave the ash in the burn pot and ashing grate....please don't......
Clean that piping up also and give it a shot of your favorite oil......WD 40 is quick .....

Well Whistlenut, between you and my first lady, it's still burning a month later
Now I'm at 5.075 ton and the wife is giving in.
I was all geared up to start cleaning and preserving the AHS this afternoon but didn't anticipate on it still burning 3 days after it's last bag of coal. Maybe this weekend. Saved a bucket of ash. I'll give her a real good cleaning head to toe. Gonna try some Amsoil HD metal protector and see how that works.
Sure has been nice though and we're both looking forward to next fall already.

So, its January 15th, 2012. I know its been fairly mild this winter (even though the winter is officially only a few weeks old) and I'm curios to see where everyone stands right now.

This time last season I had already burned through two ton and was beginning my third ton of nut. This year, I finished up one ton about a week ago and just started on my second ton. Prior to January 8th I was feeding the Chubby SR. 100 pounds of coal a day to keep the house in the mid sixties. I didn't track the DS last season since I had started mid season with it. But right now I'm running a coal hod and two 38 oz. shovel fulls of nut through the DS; I think I had read somewhere that a coal hod holds 15 pounds of coal (?not sure?).

I figure that if the weather continues to get colder I may need to possibly buy one more ton of coal. I bought three ton in June/July so, if I keep running the stove at the temps I've been running since yesterday (500*+) then I may need to buy another ton.

So, what has everyone else burned thus far?

I'll get back to ya ..... gotta count all my little bag corners .... :D

EDIT: ok all counted:

95 bags as of right now. Last loaded at 3am. Need to reload, so could add 1 or 2 to that number. 3,800 lbs or 1.9 tons. Lit up Oct. 28th, then subtract 14 days for 3 separate shut-downs due to warm weather.

Smitty,

See, I was gonna do that too. But my son doesn't follow directions to save his life. So, now I just use the pallets that I stack the coal on. I have one empty and one with two layers missing. Those two layers are in the bin next to the coal stove. So, one ton down and a little less than two left.

Eagle,

It was 9* when I woke up and 70* inside.
