Energy usage

I put in my coal stove this summer....I have been running it non-stop since it has stayed below 45* (late October). I just figured out my energy usage with what PPL has figured! I have a house that is all electric......I have cut my KWH in half!!!! I am so stoked about this I cant contain myself...and warm to boot!! Thanks to all the guys on here who helped me with my decision to switch.....I am seeing DOLLAR SIGNS IN MY ACCOUNT!!! Especially since I have spent on $218 on coal this season so far!

Do you have electric baseboard heat ? I know all about the all electric, my front pavement has the all electric gold symbol in it. It is gold for the electric co. What,if I can ask, are your electric bills ? Mine was $550 + with a heat pump 2 seasons ago. Now I'm at $120.

I have electric (heat pump back-up) but it is forced air...I was hitting around $400 from Nov-Feb......Saving money means i can buy another hunting rifle!!

Your only heating source was the heat pump I would turn on the baseboard when the temps would get into the teens.The heat pump would run almost 24/7. My heat pump froze into a block of ice 3 years ago. If it happens,turn on the a/c till it melts then back to heat. I started by changing the outdoor temp sensor, not it, the computer board was bad. Didn't cost a lot, around $60.

My furnace nd outdoor unit are 5 yrs old....guy bought them then decided to seel the house! It has worked well.....Cheaper than my old house with the same set up...but the coal stove I put is awesome. My furnace has not run since I started it. My problem with the electric heat and heat pump backup is by the time it hits the register it is below your body temp which makes it feel cold, when it is actually heating your house fine!

My father had built a new home and uses a heat pump, he does not like it, too noisy when he tries to sleep. His electric bills are good, only a little over $200, this is his only source of heat. He is talking about a natural gas or propane backup in the ductwork. He is unsure about the ng because of paying for service all year when he will only use during heating season. NO, he will not be going to coal, we discussed it already.

I can tell him unless he signs up for a budget plan with the propane company he will suffer the same deal.....the propane will be very expensive or he will be budgeted to pay every month all yr even when not using. It is a lose lose situation...the best way for him might be pellet stove to take the chill of fin the morning/evening or over night...then not use it during the day unless it is really cold....a buddy's fther has one nd that is what he does.....uses it when his electric isnt enough to keep house and wife warm...and we all know if the wife aint warm we aint happy HA HA!!

Did you ever see the davide pedersoli muzzleloader that uses a 209 primer to shoot .177 bb's or pellets. Cabela's has them on sale and I think it may be a nice little back yard shooter. I asked at the store, they say about 650 fps , but on the internet, some say 1100 fps, and will go threw 3/4" of a phone book, roughly 300 pages. Their are some magnum cci 209 primers that may send it out the door faster.
