At the office I have an IP phone -- plugs into the same wall jack as a computer to get on the network. I don't know anything about wire colors, but I know if we lose electric power the phone has to reboot when power returns. Or maybe the network switch reboots. Or maybe I reboot. Not sure. Not sure of much of anything any more, big change from when I just got out of college and knew everything.

Your IP phone is connected to a computer, and itself is like a workstation.

If you loose power, the computer(switch) has to start back up so does the phone. then they have to start talking to each other. IP phones are nice, but there are cheaper ways to get the same functionality, and high tech feel.
