I'm not catholic but I've seen a few confessions on TV. Today I had 100 gallons of the evil juice delivered to my home. (No, not that evil juice Smitty) I've got plenty of that on hand all the time. No the evil juice to which I am referring is ...OIL! It's been many years since I had oil delivered here. The neighbors all came out of their houses and gathered around as the oil truck pulled into my driveway, a sight that many have never seen. I'm sure there were chuckles and some self satisfying smirks on some of their faces as they watched the man drag that hose around the side of the house through a foot of new snow. And I'm pretty sure I heard some laughter when he brought the ticket to my door and got his check.
Well here's my sad story. Colder than normal December and January. I'm way ahead on my coal use with FEB, March and April still to go. I'm going to come up short with what I had in place to burn. More on that later. Yes I have probably 7-8 tons of rice in my outside bunker but access once it snows is not good. After that of course is mud season and access is even worse. So I'm going to use some oil this year. Actually I think it may be a good thing once in a great while to buy some heating oil just to remind me how ridiculously expensive it is. A hundred gallons...$334.90! It will cause me to redouble my efforts in the non heating season to make sure I have the normal 5 tons I would use PLUS a buffer of a ton or so so I 'm ready for colder than normal winters. I'm making plans already. OUCH that check hurt!

I'm very sorry that you had to spend that hard earned cash on evil oil. That would buy 1 1/2 ton of Harmony plus pay for gas and lunch, with change left over.
I laugh (with delight) when I see the oil and propain trucks go by the house. Planning ahead is important. I'm going for coal tomorrow, almost out of nut for the Harman and I want to stay well ahead on my supply for the EFM. True, this winter has been colder then usual.

I feel your pain. I had my tank filled two days before the EFM came online. 200+ gallons, and that was after having it filled on the 23rd of December. The bill hasn't arrived yet, but it will blow a big hole in $700. I hated to part with the cash, but on the bright side...I still have a full tank! Hopefully I will have all the fuel I need for a backup system for a long time. I added some diesel fuel conditioner to the tank before having it filled, so it should be good for a few years.

That would do 2 tons of harmony coal, fuel and a steak dinner for me.Wood'nCoal wrote: That would buy 1 1/2 ton of Harmony plus pay for gas and lunch, with change left over.

About a 2 hour drive each way for me, but I always visit JC and then we end up at Scrapper's so it becomes an all day event. Sometimes we can fit in a trip to Vito's for some coal-fired pizza.

I have three 275 gallon heating oil tanks. I buy from a cash only independent fuel oil dealer. I time my purchases to the market and buy at least 500 gallons which qualifies me to an additional discount for volume. Almost all the heating oil is used for my diesel tractor, lawn mower or generator. Some does get used for my oil boiler (domestic hot water) in the summer when the coal boiler is down for cleaning. Best month to buy is usually July or August. I buy every 3-4 years. I do add fuel additive to keep the mold growth down.

I'm not sure but I think if you pull another caper like that, your moderator status may be in jeopardy.coalkirk wrote:I'm not catholic but I've seen a few confessions on TV. I was outside the other night and never saw the "BAT SIGNAL" Must have been during the snowstorm when visibility was limited. Sorry. But had there been a request for help with the promise of sharing some of the other evil juice, well, you never know just how many would have offered an emergency delivery of black rocks !!!!
Seriously though, I just had to do the same here at the shop. And I hated every minute of it. But since I'll be away for a week, there will be no one to tend the Hyfire. So you gotta do what you gotta do.
Lets just hope this was the last time.

I'd drive down with the 2N to help you out, but it probably would take me a few days to get there, plus I don't know if I can go through the EZ Pass lanes.

I think the EZ pass cameras would go into overload and crash because they have never taken a picture of anything with that size rear tires on it before.I was always told that the N series of Fords could go anyplace. Mike

Ok -- this is too little too late
but
considering you already own the coal out back
Might it not have made "cents" to pay a guy with a bobcat maybe an hour to dig some up to the house?

I too will be making a trip to the dealer early next month. My estimates for our yearly burn didn't include the extended period of below 20* days or snow we have had so far this winter. It's about 3 hours round trip but it will also give me a head start for next year. Take care, Lisa
