Does this story have a happy ending or did we get gassed by kero heaters?

No Fred that is not were the Shear pin is that is were the Auger coupler is pined on with cotter pins to the shaft and Pot Auger The shear pin is on the other end of Shaft Sq end were the manual feed wrench would go on in front of gear drum .
The shear pin is a 25 cent item which will save a person from buying a New 180 Pot Auger

There probably was a nail or something else that's harder then a shear pin used here. If you look at this photo you can see the shear collar still on the clutch shaft with some sort of pin still in it.

is there any where i can find an exploded diagram of the entire assembly to see what i'm up against ?

I honestly doubt i can afford to replace all those parts you mentioned, at least not until i can get my tax return. I might have to settle for toasting an auger. If i can get another month or so out of the new one. I've been in this house since november, and with moving costs, down payment on the home itself, and my new/used vehicle ... i'm pretty tapped out right now.

The New pot auger that you order will or should have a New Auger bushing on it .
The pot bushing will have to be replaced 22.00 The pot will have to come out with the blower housing then unscrew the set screws on the air tube and pull the pot off use heat and rubber malled or a piece of 2x4 with a hammer to loosen up the pot from air tube then drive out the old bushing or split it wil a cheisel then clean the bushing area out good with
wire brush then find a socket the same size as the outside of bushing and drive it back in slowly and evenly until the bushing hits the shoulder inside.

Never seize everything when putting the pot back on to air tube and set screws .
Check and make sure there is the correct shear pin in the sq end of shaft were the manual feed Handel would go in front
of drum gear Do not use any nails for shear pins The shear pin will break with a few lbs It will save the pot auger from breaking A harden Nail will not break before the auger will . The correct shear pin will break before the auger will a shear pin is 25 cents A New pot Auger is 180 .
The pot Auger coupler on the drive shaft can be drilled round and use the next biggest or closest size cotter pins in the holes

If you would of put your location down I might of been be able to drop off all parts for you or meant you on I-81 at one of the exits

JC I sent him a PM and told him to PM you. He never read it and hasn't been back on the forum since Sunday, so I guess he got it fixed one way or another. Maybe a hot-shot repair guy sold him a modern efficient oil burner. :D
