Big brother eliminates the incandescent bulb

Are gov. is telling us again what we can't buy the old style incandescent bulbhttp://www.wnd.com/?pageId=45156 but the new style bulbs have mercury in them. Can this be a problem if you break one in a shop light ??? I do use the new style some places. Will we have to change the smiles to the new style also ??? Give it time and they will ban the new bulbs because of the mercury, then we'll have to go back to coal oil lamps.

Like many things the greenies do, they have only half thought it through. Yes, they will ban the new light bulbs eventuallly. But not until trillions of them have been disposed of in landfills and contaminated all out well water with mercury. Remember when we HAd to go to plastic grocery bags because the paper ones were using all the trees? The ethonal in gas is a huge disaster but they aren't ready to let that one go yet. And there was MTBE in gas that did contaminate millions of wells.
I like the energy savings aspect of the new bulbs and I do use them in some applications. But they are not good for everything. When I flip the basement light on, I like to actually be able to see the steps. Same in my shed. There are times when you need the light on right away. Eventually I think we will all use LED lighting in our homes but we are not there yet.

What is it, 90% of the energy of an incandescant bulb is wasted as heat. Not always wasted, I've heard a lot of old timer's tricks like keeping a bulb lit inside a well enclosure that is prone to freezing, keeping a bulb lit inside a coal stove all summer to stop corrosion from condensation, etc. The ghost of Edison must pound on his desk at night at the Edison museum.
A lot of people think flourescent light is bad for you, I've heard the 60hz. flickering makes your iris react constantly and causes eye strain and fatigue. They seem to lose a lot of lumens in the cold too. You know they can make an incandescant bulb last a very long time if they want to. As soon as they railroad us completely into the compact flourescent scam, they'll start making them last less and less.
I read about a scandinavian scientist that theorized that the petroleum in the earth was formed when the earth was made, and he was drilling down very deep to prove it, I think shooting for 18,000 feet where there is virtually unlimited petroleum. They shut his operation down. No profit in cheap oil! Also remember reading that when they first started using nuclear power to generate electricity in this country, they were saying electricity would be too cheap to meter!
Freakin lefty greenies have this attitude that the greatest and wealthiest country in the history of the world is WRONG for increasing the standard of living for the human race. I hate that attitude, they act like they want to drag us all back into the stone age.

hi there , those new bulbs contain mercury, also a guy at work told me, now take this with a grain of salt,,, that if you break one,you should leave the room for like a half hour to let the air clear,then come back to clean up the mess,, every home needs a hazmat siut in the closet ,,and the goodwill stores in our area are selling them for peco at 1 doolar a pack of four ,, the gov and big bussiness they deffinatly hold each others hands......

The government knows what's best for all of us, I wish all of you would finally realize that! Resistance is futile.

I had to change the light in my bathroom the other day. Old style filament lamp. I honestly don't ever in my life remember changing that bulb before.

Yet I go through CFL's yearly. And you can bet all that mercury shows up in the water in a couple decades.

Ever see the EPA instructions for cleaning up a broken bulb? Step one (of 13) says to evacuate the area for 30 minutes!

It was interesting to read in a book about Nikola Tesla that he made flourescent lamps back around the time Edison was inventing the filament bulb. No one would produce Tesla's lamp because there was no money in a bulb that last "decades".

Will there be light bulb dealers, you know, they smuggle them across the border. Go down to the shady part of the city at night, and ask do you have a light BIG fines if you are caught with more than 5, 100 watt bulbs I do use the new florescent bulbs, but I still like the old ones for the bathrooms (they light up faster)work light, and the outdoor path lights. Can you use the florescent on a dimmer switch ???

If the greenies want to save the damn world, why the hell aren't they pushing LED's??????? They are superior in EVERY WAY to the CFL. This just goes to show you that this isn't about saving the world -- it's about behind-the-scenes business deals with the government. Nothing they do makes any sense whatsever. They're not saving anything -- they ARE "spreading the wealth around", just like they said they were going to do ....but idiots voted for them anyway.

Funny how there were never any clean up warnings or kits for all the other 2, 4, 8ft. bulbs the circular kitchen lights that used to be popular along with the smaller desk type. Bottom line is if the burned out ones are disposed of properly there won`t be much problem down the road, once the price of the LEDs come down they will be the light of the future, just too costly now. Never said there were no big money Dem.s, just pointed out that Bush signed this law.

I'm buying hundred watt, 75 watt & loads of 60 watt "regular" bulbs. Package them in groups of five, and bury them here & there & everywhere. I'm going to have an easy retirement! Need a bulb? I'll be the man! You pay me my price & I'll give you a map to the goodies. Code word "tulip bulbs".

Sure there will be underground bulb dealers. Just like now there is a black market in full flush toilets. You know to replace the 1.6 gallon flush ones that you have to flush several times to get the job done. First they came for my toilet and I didn't say anything. Then they are coming for my light bulbs and I won't say anything. When they come for my coal there's gonna be a fight!!!

No. Most fluorescents cannot work on a dimmer. There are some that are designed to be used with a special dimmer... they are the only ones that can be.
