We've been getting our coal from People's in Stroudsburg. Our ash this year seems to have a lot of crap, not like it looked last year at all. Last year we had lite gray with some klinkers. This year we have sawdust colored stuff and blue stone in the ash.

Coal Ash - Doesn't Look So Good to Us

Does anyone know of another coal supplier that will deliver to the Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg area, who can also shoot the coat a distance of about 70 feet from truck to coal bin? Our current supplier can do it, but we called Kresge, and they said they can only shoot 15 feet, because they have a regular truck that does not have a bed that lifts.

One other place we found close to Mt. Pocono only delivers a minimum of 20 tons, a bit of overkill for us.

Before you just get another coal delivery, ask your current supplier where they are getting the coal from. You might find another 5 suppliers but they may all be getting the coal from the same place. Ask Pocono-eagle where he gets his coal, there was also somebody from Pocono -summit on here?

People's Coal was buying from Centralia Coal, a broker out of Wilkes-Barre, the last time I was there (which was a few years ago).

Our neighbor gets his rice from Kresge and he says it's great. He will no longer buy from Peoples, whose coal he says is crap. We can't use Kresge because they can't get the coal to our coal bin. If we can't put together a group buy of 20 tons, the only supplier we seem to have IS Peoples. We're thinking about a future group buy with 3 of our neighbors for 5 tons each from the place on Rt. 940 Mt. Pocono area, but we'll find out where they get their rice from before buying -- good suggestion, thanks! We'll also need a 2nd coal bin. The amazing thing is that we live on a little private gravel road with only 8 full-time homes on it (there are 2 others which are vacation cabins), and at least 4 homes heat with coal. So 50% using coal for heating!

For right now, we may just get another delivery from People's to finish the season and work on alternatives later.

Have you told People's Coal about your experience with their product? Perhaps if enough of you complained they would change their supplier.

I have been getting my coal from People's Coal for 2 years now. Last year they said the coal came from the South Tamaqua Pocket. The coal was clean and burned well. This past January I bought two tons of Stove Coal from them. The load has a large amount of fines in the coal. I'm not happy with it. I excused it at the time because of all the snow and everything being frozen. Next Summer when it is time to get more I might look for another company.

Pocono Newbies, do you know the name of the coal place on Rt 940 in Mt. Pocono, I don't remember ever seeing a place for coal over there it would be really close to me and I'm sick of carrying 40# bags around.

I got coal from Kresge's in Saylorburg a few years ago before I discovered Craigslist and UAE. I was told that Kresge sells Jeddo coal. It burns well for me. Also, People's coal in Stroudsburg is the same company as Kresge's. I got a P/U load of Hudson last year with Chris, DVC500 at last. The Hudson also burned very well for me. I hope that my two cents were of help.

Here's their info, they're in Pocono Pines actually, but as I discovered that they will only deliver 20 tons, unless our neighbors and we get together for a large purchase, we won't be using them:

Last heating season I know Kresge and People's were affiliated, but this season we've been told that they are now separate. Last year our coal burned well. This year we had to use both burners on our Hyfire II to heat the house in weather that we only needed 1 burner for last year. And have you taken a look at my thread with the pics of our ash? Our ash looked nothing like those pics last year.

Question -- What's UAE?

I had asked where/what UAE Harmony was (supplier? Mine?), but then found a thread with the info.
