Oiled Vs Dry Rice Coal ?

Hi all,

i was just wondering what everyones thoughts were on burning dry oil or oiled rice coal.besides the dust factor does one burn hotter (more heat) or burn longer than the other. I have burned oiled for my first three years and have been happy.i burn between 5 and 6 tons per year.1600 sq foot house good insulation . it also does my hot water.one of my neighbors who also burns coal found a deal on some dry rice coal and he says he is burning about 1/2 as much. he thinks it must be the coal .he said he has backed the feed way off on the furnace compared to where it was burning the oiled. I can save about 40 per ton by switching to the dry. but have bouhgt all my coal from the same place and not had one problem. so I guess I don't want to switch unless it really will save money and use less at the same time. thanks for any help.

I get it oiled all the time, they only charge $10/ton extra. I have never had a problem with it burning differently. That I have noticed.

Agreed with WNY... This year I have gotten all of my bulk coal oiled (at a price of $5.00 additional per ton), last year no oil...

No difference at all in how it burns etc. with or without oil... The difference in burn characteristic is all in the quality of the coal itself... Wet, dry, oiled, purple, green......... Makes no difference, if its good/great quality Anthracite thats what may allow you to reduce feed rate etc. to obtain the same heat output as coal of lesser quality requiring more feed for a given output...

Hope that makes sense
