Ciavarella:Guilty of most Serious Charges in Kids for Cash

A jury has found former judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. guilty on 12 counts, including racketeering and conspiracy, in the kids-for-cash case.

The counts carry a maximum combined sentence of 157 years in prison.

My only hope is sentencing is immediate and without delay.

He'll die with the case on appeal.

He's not exactly a spring chicken but I believe he's only in his early 60's. There is a good chance he will die in jail.

The judge decides if the sentence will be imposed immediately? I don't see the judge letting him go while on appeal, this is the same judge that rejected the plea agreement that called for 7 years. My guess is he gets 20 years, his buddy Conahan will be lucky to get the original 7 and only because he helped the prosecution.

Newswatch 16 just reported the minimum sentence is 115 months, at the very least it appears he'll get at least 10.

they should make him serve it in the same center he sent the kids to.................

Rumor has it that Maine's new governor wants to privatize our prisons. Big mistake, to give a private group financial incentive to put citizens behind bars.

I was under the impression that the min sentencing guidelines are for only if he pleaded guilty or was allowed to. I may be wrong.


I have a theory that he will get less than 7yrs maybe even 5. If that happens I will share my theory. Boy, I hope I am wrong .

Firstly I should mention they are now saying the guidelines call for 13 to 15 years.

The plea bargain the judge rejected as too lenient was for 7 years, this is the same judge that will sentence him.

The feds have some kind of scoring system for whatever you were convicted of, the sentencing guidelines are based on whatever the score is. The judge can impose any sentence he wants up to the maximum, technically he could be sentenced for the whole 137 years or whatever it is. If the judge strays from the guidelines he has to file a reason why. This of course would be subject to appeal. If the guidelines call for a minimum of 13 years based on the previous actions of this judge I think it's safe to say he will get at least that.

FYI there is no federal parole, if he gets 13 he will spend 13 in jail.

It's crazy how it works but that is the way they do it. I'm not even sure if they can put him in jail after sentencing because of the appeal. It would be nice if they could.

I still think their is more going on behind the scenes that we don't know . I am speculating, but I just don't trust any one of them. We will see with the sentencing if it was handled properly. I am just glad I am out of that county.

Certainly makes a life of crime seem more attractive, especially when you reach my age. I should reconsider my career options. As long as I have enough money to keep paying my lawyer, I can put off the actual jail time until I am so old and doddering that I don't care.

Just to clarify from the news reports and the bit of reserch I did it was unclear to me if they could put him in jail at the time of sentencing. This might be something left up to the the judge.

If they can put this off for a long time the next thing will be they are asking for clemency because of his age/health.... As of right now he's going to be pushing late 70's by the time he gets out.

There's another one, on youtube, of the lady who's son offed himself because of this, confronting the good judge.

I saw the clip where the mother of the teenager that killed himself went off at his FACE and called him "scumbag".

Poor mother. I felt for that woman.
