Coal Ash

Coal Ash

PostBy: traderfjp On: Fri Feb 18, 2011 6:48 pm

I'm using coal ash for an area that we want to park on. The weather has forced me to pile the ash on top of the snow. I noticed that the ash seems to be one hard pile. Will I be able to break this up and rake it out when it gets warmer?

Yes, it will freeze with the snow/cold weather, it will loosen up some once it starts to melt....

hopefully you own or have access to a roller--it can get pretty sloppy during mud season---like the past few days---just keep rolling it---but well worth the effort in the long run--I'm trying something new this year--I've been dumping along the edge of the house (field stone foundation) and come spring I'll trowel the ash on to/ in to the stone--we'll see how it goes-- :) I did a small sectiion last season & it worked well

The coal ash will insulate the snow from the warm weather when it comes. Makes the pile look bigger than it really is, for longer than normal. This happens every year to my ash pile. I discovered the snow underneath while knocking the pile down with the plow. All the snow had long since melted, except what was under the ash.

Will it make a good base for a driveway? Will it always get mush when the ash gets wet?

Thanks
