They are way better hunters than people realise and seem to be able to catch the deer more by intelligence and persistance than anything else. They just don't let up once thier mind is set to the task.
Here is a pic of my loveable little terror!
Nice lookin Sheppard. Heres a couple of our Mikos....

Had a couple of very liberal-minded women move into our area from the city a few years back. They were environmentalists and artists who were very enamored with their idyllic country life but the reality of rural living set in over a couple of issues. The one that sticks in my mind was that they were concerned that their dogs would be shot by "stupid" hunters as their dogs roamed around the countryside during deer season.

One day they were in my hardware store shopping for a few items and asked me if they should contact the NYS environmental conservation officers with their concerns. When I told them that the conservation officers would shoot their dogs on sight if they were packing up and depredating deer in any way. They were aghast and insulted that I would imply that either of their beloved pooches were natural born killers capable of packing with other dogs and killing deer in a horrible "inhumane" manner. After all, they taught them to be loving and kind like their masters. I then told them that they could be fined just for allowing the dogs to roam. They went ballistic, ranting with indignity.

It seems the environmentalists don't understand nature nor the effect of their own influence.

Happens all the time around here. People move out into the country and then realize reality does not jive with their fantasies.

For myself, I grew up in the suburbs but I'm happy as hell to be living in the country. Tractors, hay wagons, manure sprayers, etc are a small price to pay for the quiet and beauty. The city smells, in my opinion, are much worse and I have lived near major cities.

I hear that!

The worst place in the country is better than the "best" place in any city. If I never set foot in another city, it'll be too soon. ;)

It's entertaining ( yet sad at the same time ) to watch city yuppies build a gigantic house near a farm .... and then cry to the town selectmen that the smell makes them sick.

Are they all stupid??? Or just the ones in MA??? :gee:

Nope, we're loaded with them up here! They call the IF&W to complain about a fox in their back field and want it removed, right now! All the things they assume about country living are wrong, but they got it from a book or professor at Harvard so they can't be wrong. Every time I get a new neighbor, they have a dog as big as a small horse. Of course they moved here so "Spot" can roam freely, there arent any people up here you know, and he want's to *censored* in my yard. I have never had one of them take me seriously until I told them I would shoot him on sight the next time. Then I am an ignorant, gun toting redneck. Please keep a few of them down there! We have enough!!!

Most of them eventually get frustrated and either accept the situation or move back to the city.

I always encourage them to go back to the city :P

Yes they are all stupid!!!

We had a bunch here that moved into an agricultural zone then complained about the smells from the fertalizer, the early morning noise when the farmers tractor got close ect, ect. They even went as far as trying to organise something about responsible farming buy handing out papers to all the people around only to find out that we all like it this way because it keeps thier type away! I would have loved to be at the township meeting when they realised that the township officials that they were complaining to are all farmers! Talk about something falling on deaf ears!

I really like this topic :D
We had a stupid woman move into the neighborhood who thought it was just fine to let her German shepard
run loose. Well, the dog got into a farmers chicken coop three different times and killed quite a few of his birds.
He warned her each time, and let her know that there's a leash law in Haverhill. She ignored his warning.
He got fed up,the next time he caught the dog killing his chickens, he shot the dog dead. And he had every right to.
The woman flipped. Tried to have the farmer arrested. The farmer was never charged with anything. The story made the local paper.
Too bad the dog died because of his owners arrogance. Some people have no right owning an animal either :(
And don't ever talk to city folk about deer hunting! You can't fix stupid.
