AHS S-130 Options

AHS S-130 Options

PostBy: watkinsdr On: Mon Feb 28, 2011 2:48 pm

I'm interested in ordering a new AHS S-130. The AHS website lists their boiler options. Some options make sense, like the domestic hot water coil; while, some other options are less clear...

Which of the following options makes sense to get?

1. Thermo Ash Monitoring Control - Does this really help? Especially while running during the summer under light load of DHW only??

2. UL Listing - Help with insurance?

3. ASME Rating - Help with insurance too? Plus a requirement in some states, right?? Probably helps with resale value too???

4. Belt Driven Fan - Does this significantly help reduce the failure rate on the electric motor by isolating it from high temperatures?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The AHS web site has not kept up with the coal gun product they are now selling. As I understand it all now sold are Thermo Ash

Again all are now UL listed

All are designed to ASME specs. The option is the boiler pressure vessel "H Stamp". YOU need to determine if your state requires it. In a residential use PA does not require it. Call your local code inspection officials and get the answer in writing.

The belt drive fan does lower the temperature at the motor, but in my opinion what will likely fail is motor bearings and they are cheap compared to the belt drive option. The motor bearing fails because the heat boils out the grease.

Yes, there is fiberglass insulation. How thick? On my boiler it's at least an inch or more. Much like a house insulation batt, sort of stuffed in place so it's thicker in some places where there is more room for it.
