This is unbelieveable!

On tonight's news, I heard that now our elected officials want to tax us on coupon use at the grocery stores or wherever we may use them. Now if folks are taking the time to clip coupons it is probably because they are looking for whatever small savings they can come by in these very difficult times. So I guess it makes sense for the state to step in and make sure they get their cut!!! How about trimming a little pork out of the budget instead of all the tax increases. I guess we can't go there because they are too worried that they won't get re-elected if they don't feather the nests of their constituents. They might also look into the rampant waste that goes on in every department out there. It never ceases to amaze me when I hear stories of the money that is just plain wasted without a single thought. I know I am ranting but I am getting sick and tired of bustin my backside only to have our officials come up with new and different ways to reach into my pocket for another little piece of the action.

Or how about New Haven..proposing to charge a new tax for the rain runoff that goes into the sewer system caused by your driveway. The bigger the driveway, the more you pay ! Lets put a mass flow crap-o-meter on your toilet. God!!

No one is telling us we need to stay here, the 2nd largest per capital deficit in the US.

And how does our state compare to other states regarding the # of illegitimate children on welfare per unit mother ?

I didn't see the news....what do you mean by "tax us on coupon use"? In Maine if you use a coupon you pay sales tax on the price before the coupon. Like, if you have a $.25 cent off coupon for a one dollar item that makes the price $.75.....but you pay sales tax on $1. The state says "The coupon doesn't change the price to $.75 so you pay tax on the full dollar". Isn't it that way everywhere? Or, are you talking about some new inventive way to tax a coupon?

Freddy,
Here we pay tax on the item after the discount is taken. Our Governor wants to impliment Maine's system as well as increasing the tax another 1/2 percent. It just seems like every day they are coming up with new ways of taxing us. As it is I think we are in the top 3 highest tax rates in the country.

Where are you? PA? You wait until they discover "excise tax" when registering automobiles. I understand PA has none, but here, every year, you pay "excise tax" when you register your vehicle. It is a tax that goes on the "actual value of the car". Each year the tax is lower than the year before, but after 5 years you "hit the minimum". Now, get this, on a brand new vehicle you pay tax on the sticker price, not what you paid. So, if the sticker says $30,000, you pay tax on $30,000, not the $22,500 that you actually paid for it! My wifes Honda CRV is the first brand new car we ever had. The excise tax was just over $600 the first year. How many coupons will that cover? Maine is very inventive.

NWBuilder, You attitude is all wrong. What you need to do is to learn to milk the system. Divorce your wife so she can qualify for government subsidized housing, food stamps, and free heat from TVCCA. You kids can get insurance through husky or sustinet. Work under the table so you don't have to pay taxes. OR you could get a job as a teacher or town manager or janitor and get a sweet pension and benefit package compliments of those foolish dups try and work a non-government job and pay taxes. Life is what you make it and you are playing by the old school rules. You are just cutting yourself out of the government cheese thinking that way. You really need to get in a government program or job and life would be good! :dancing:

I watched a show on mega -coupon users the other night. It was awesome. These people are off the hook. One guy was so good at it he got huge amounts of free food and gave a lot of it to his church food bank. These people have so many coupons and do so much planning, one lady went in and her grocery bill was like $700 before the coupons. She had 5 carts full of sale items with coupons etc. After the coupons her total was like $6.50. I'm going to Costco now and have to change my food buying habits. The local A&P is an outrage, prices are absurd now. Very scary and maddening.

Hey Freddy,
We have the same tax here it is just called personal property tax and they tax you on blue book value when you register your vehicle no matter what you paid for it here as well. I also pay on all my tools including lawn mowers backhoe, table saws etc. I have a huge problem with that because I paid the full tax on it when I bought it, there should be no reason to further tax me on those things. Car use the roads, they need to be maintained so I can at least justify that tax somewhat. They just seem to becoming more and more creative in how we will pay! Cuts and fiscal responsibilty just never come into play!!

Take a look at the above link first. I found out about it by first watching "www.endofamerica2.com" which you will likely also have to cut and paste into your browser. Stansberry Research is trying to sell his Investment paper, the long winded documentary is quite informative and kind of frightening, in some way maybe I can see it starting to happen, I'm trying to say no but listen to it and get back to me with what you guys think............. I heard about this firm several months ago, apparently they were a lonesome one in predicting the 2008 fiasco and it seems they are predicting a new one..again, evaluate for yourself....

I called out new governor malloy's office about his budget proposals (he found 140 jobs out of ~44-75K state workers to let go -- good job dillweed) ; they don't like to hear objections to this & other tax increases though. They will not put you through to anyone to talk about it though ... only some secretary .. go to the town hall meetings - he's running around and getting bashed everywhere he goes...

This is what you get when you live in a blue state. Makes you want to throw up sometimes.

Hey, I didn't vote for him.
