Simple coal question...any simple answer?

PostBy: Freddy On: Thu Mar 24, 2011 5:45 am

I have possibly found a flatbed that comes from PA to my area that sometimes comes home empty. He might be able to bring back bagged coal on pallets. Where might he find good quality bagged coal that he can stop & get 18 or 22 ton?

Does UAE sell bagged or just bulk? He can't get Blaschak as "they only sell to dealers".

Any names & locations would be helpful! Thanks.

Getting into the coal business?

You will get lots of opinions on what is "good" bagged coal. Blaschak has a fine product, so maybe you could ask about becoming a dealer. I have been very pleased with the Kimmel's rice this winter, and I don't think they are as fussy about dealerships. I bought a TT load of Kimmel's through Penn Keystone Coal in 2008, no problems at all.

Naaaa, but a friend of a friend has just ordered an AHS130. He asked me about coal & prices & he's looking to buy a full load. Living this far away it only makes sense to buy a whole truck at a time. I know how to buy bulk...phone Double Run Trucking & tell them what mine & what size, but, having someone from here go get it on a flatbed presents this issue....who has it bagged & ready to go & will sell it to Joe Stranger from out of state.

I'll give Kimmel a ring. I know they have good coal.

If Kimmel's won't sell to a non-dealer, you should be able to get it through Penn Keystone. 814-244-3140

Sure would be nice to get UAE bagged after burning a couple tons. Wicked low ash and burns just as hot as any other in my boiler.

Last year I burnt Cornwall coal, one ashpan to a 300# hopper. This year it was 1 1/2 ash pans to the hopper. UAE doesn't quite fill the ashpan.

Freddy,

Don't know what the prices would be but Lutz's in Skippack, PA buys in bulk and then bags it themselves. They currently have 50 or 100 lb. feed bags filled that are string tied. Perhaps they would offer a discount for such a load as you would desire.

Looks like Kimmels will get the business. Every place else either doesn't sell bagged or "doesn't want new customers", although I didn't get hold of Lutz's. I just don't quite trust Penn. He knows just what to say on the phone, but will not tell you where the coal comes from. Plus, his price was higher than I think it should have been.

My dad and I have burned six pallets of Kimmel's this winter, it has all burned fine. Tan colored ash, lots of heat.
