If anybody plays around with Google Earth, check out some of the mining operations
in NE Pennsylvania.
Type in the following on the line that says Fly To:

40 59'08.05"N 75 55'21.04"W (puts you on top of Jeddo Highlands Shovels)

40 58'57.84"N 75 56'33.91"W (puts you on top of Jeddo Highlands Plant)

40 57'36.72"N 75 56'49.77"W (puts you on top of Hazleton Shaft Coal Co)

Just zoom in and spin around the area.

An alternative to Google Earth is 'Birds Eye view' in Bing Maps. Go to http://www.bing.com/maps then cut and paste one of those url's into the search bar then select the 'bird's eye option. It is more of an aerial view as opposed to a satellite view. There's even an option to rotate the view that can offer a different perspective.

It is very much interesting to viewing coal mining operation via Google earth. I am now using this system to view all the coal mining operations. However, I didn't know that I can use Google earth in this way. This system will help me a lot in exploring different parts of the world and gather knowledge. Thanks for sharing this....##CrYiNg KiD##

I guess because my dad was a captain and I spent a lot of time around ships over 40 years ago, I've become interested in the 'recycling' of old ships. The 3rd world does much of this heavy lifting using a minimum of resources. I wanted to upload a kmz or kml file but apparently it is not allowed on this site. Go to Google Earth and look up these places. You'll see beaches littered with old ships. No EPA or OSHA here.

Alang India, Aliga Turkey, Chittagong Bangladesh & Gadani Pakistan.

They run the ships up on the beach at full speed then cut them apart with torches. Some good youtube videos on the subject too.

Hey Richard, how about lifting the restriction of sharing kmz or kml files?
