Sounds like a typical partially clogged nozzle. Put in a new nozzle.

Crazy4 yes my tanks both have fuel lines running from bottom. The one tank which clogs up more often had a small pin hole on the bottom of the tank about 8 years ago my service man said he could put a piece of stainless steel along the bottom, it has some kind of backing on it and has 5 bands that he used to tightened the steel against the oil tank. Actually it held up quite well but he says they don't even sell them ant more anyhow I'm beginning to smell an oil odor and I think it's time for a new tank this Summer and I will definitely have the oil line run from the top of the tank.

Sounds like those tanks are 10 yrs overdue for replacement. I was called to a house about 3 yrs ago that had 4-275 tanks ganged together. The owner said that he was standing at the top of the stairs and the floor was red and in was moving. The oil truck had just filled them 45 mins before. The tanks were in a room just packed full and you could only get to two of them. By the time I got there he was taking out the junk and the fuel was about an inch deep and running out the door. The tank with the hole was in the back. We used an oil truck to pump out what was left of the oil and pump what we could off the floor. Total storage cap was 1100 gals we pumped out 686 gals the rest went right in the ground under the house. The cleanup took 61/2 mos. Had to jack the house and tear out half the basement and dig down to bedrock 19' down, When the water well was checked it had 18" of oil floating on the water so, he got a new well too. Total clean up coat was over 350,000 and they are still pumping oil from his old well. 2 of the tanks were 54 yrs old and 2 were about 30 yrs old. 9 yrs before he was told to get them replaced. When the tank was pulled outside we could push a screwdriver thru the bottom with one hand. Sum people just don't hear sometimes! Oil tanks do wearout!!

yup, oil tanks to wear out. The tanks need to be pitched steeply toward the fuel outlet and the fuel needs to be taken from the bottom or it will happen much faster. I've removed/moved tanks that were set up properly from the begenning with proper pitch in a dry basement and they were almost perfect after 50 years.

I can't believe no one has told you to check the filter. That's the first thing to check! Come on guys.

I went on a beckett burner lock out recently , after a reset and refire the guy says wait... and turns on a box fan which is blowing up and out of a 1/4 open basement window.....

the small hole in the boilers exhaust where you stick a probe for combustion test is profoundly fuming smoke

I say hey, how long you running it like this, as it shuts off and locks out again, hey says a week or so!!

I say you got co detectors? he says yes!! they have been going off upstairs so he pulls thier batteries!!

I disassemble the stack and it was completly plugged.....every turbulator packed.. he said they cleaned it ....5 years ago!!! :o

sometimes its worth having a good inspection done... they are potential health hazzard 8-)
