I have a chance to get a coal boiler(?) but the guy doesn't seem to know much about it other than it is approx 20 years old and it was only used for the first three years. He sent me a really grainy cell phone picture that doesn't help me much at all.

I did a quick Google search and didn't come up with anything, maybe you NEPA guys have heard of it?

He's offering the boiler, between 1/2 and 1 ton of coal and assorted ducts for the low, low price of FREE. I just have to move it out of his basement.

It's a hot air furnace. Everyone and their grandmother was making them in the early '70s. :D
A furnace is generally lighter than a boiler, should be easy to move.

You suppose it should "work" right? I mean, it just has to have the basics of under fire air, etc etc?

I can't use it because I have baseboard forced water but a friend of mine has forced air and I'm always hounding him to get a coal unit of some kind.

Tried to give him my old WESO. :)

I would go over the heat exchanger with a hammer to make sure it is solid. If that is good, check the grates. If they are not in good condition, consider passing on it as you just know they aren't available.

It will heat a house, I'm guessing around 100K BTUs.
